Interesting that in a league with no DH, it looks like I'm the only one who took Ruth as a pitcher.  Hopefully that bodes well, but I'm always leery when I'm the odd one out in these things.

^ you consider that a bad thing? I looked for my players that nobody else selected and was disappointed not to find more of them. I had several big PH/backup for low PA starters that nobody else wanted, and some 3rd OFs who were slight downgrades to make the budget.

I hate pitcher Babe's walk rates.  I'm really loathe to use a guy at 120m who averages more than 4 BB/9 in OLs.

Over the past few weeks, there's been discussion on how many players would be so popular, that they would appear on all 16 rosters.  The final totals are in.  A grad total of FOUR players appeared on every roster.  There are...

1920 Joe Jackson, OF, White Sox
1936 Luke Appling, SS, White Sox
2007 Rafael Betancourt, RP, Indians
1968 Bob Gibson, SP, Cardinals

Seven players appeared on 15 rosters (owner w/o player in parantheses)

1928 Rogers Hornsby, 2B, Braves (llcoach)
1953 Warren Spahn, SP, Braves (beirnej1)
1984 Willie Hernandez, RP, Tigers (mllama54)
1972 Don Sutton, SP, Dodgers (mllama54)
1977 Rod Carew, 1B, Twins (pedrocerrano)
1915 Pete Alexander, SP, Phillies (pmars2001)
1981 Mike Schmidt, 3B, Phillies (Jtpsops)

I'd like to know why the players above (those appearing on 15 rosters) were not on all 16 rosters?  15 of 16 people can't all be wrong, can they?

There's an easy way to measure just how unique an owner's roster is.  By cross referencing each owner's roster with how often each player was selected, I can come up with an "Average Ownership Factor".  This is actually a weighted average (i.e, weighted by salary b/c I don't want the frequency of 200K players making a big impact on this average).  So, if every player on your roster was selected exactly 6 times, your factor would be 6.00.  Each franchise has a different overall average.  Based on the table I posted yesterday, you would expect the Yankees to have the lowest average since they have the most different players used.  And in fact, that is the case.

The following table shows each owner's "Avg Ownership Factor" for each franchise.

As for me, with Schmidt...I went with Rolen at 3B.  A/A defense and some pretty decent offensive numbers as well.

I purposely didn't show the average "Avg Ownership Factor" for each owner since the team distribution is different for each person.  But, by comparing each Factor with the franchise average, I can see which owners have the most (and least) unique rosters.  This table shows that.  This table of ratio's show the percentage above the average.  So mpitt's 1.16 means that his eight franchise factors are, on average, 16% above the franchise average and he has the least unique rosters.  While zlionsfan, wedhead36 and Jtpsops have the most unique rosters.

anyone get Ruth/Gehrig/Mantle/Maris all on the Yanks?
3/26/2011 10:25 PM
IMO, having DiMaggio instead of Maris is more impressive...

pedrocerrano has '30 Ruth, '61 Mantle, '41 DiMaggio, '27 Gehrig (total salary = $44 million).
ballantine has '28 Ruth, '61 Maris, '57 Mantle, '30 Gehrig ($37 million)
alleyviper has 31 Ruth, '62 Mantle, '41 DiMaggio, '28 Gehrig ($35 million)
Jtpsops has '20 Ruth, '60 Maris, '56 Mantle, 30 Gehrig ($44 million)
mpitt76 has '31 Ruth, '57 Mantle, '39 DiMaggio, '28 Gehrig ($40 million)

uh-oh ... 25% below ... I prefer some kind of company in these things. I feel that when my rosters are different, it's usually because it's something I'm doing "wrong" ...
3/27/2011 12:48 AM
Me too, but the good news is that if it works out, you should be well ahead of everyone else.

Not taking Carew was simply a cap issue. He was on my original roster but I had to drop him to ensure enough total PA and IP

I had no interest at all in using Maris at this cap with these rules.

Cheap homers and serviceable D...with the price of some Yankees, I think he'll be a bargain.
