3-round "franchise" draft - Draft Thread Topic

For what it's worth... My first pick (Chicago White Stockings) adds roughly $56 million of salary to my team (four hitters, one big-inning pitcher).  That is after applying an 80% factor to Clarkson's salary to account for the fact that he should finish with only 700 IPs.  My second pick (Montreal Expos) adds roughly $58 million of salary to my team (5 hitters, 5 pitchers).  This essentially gives me my entire pitching staff (1400 IPs, after adjustment) and my entire offense.  Of course, I'm hoping to upgrade in a couple of spots with my last pick, and I'm sure I'll have extra ABs and IPs anyway... But with an effective team salary somewhere in the $114M to $120M range, I wonder how far behind the rest of the pack that puts me.

My first (and thus far) only pick, the White Sox, is currently at 57mil in salary, but that may change depending on what I get with my 2nd pick

My essentially complete (and horrible fielding) team checks in at about $129M right now.  I don't expect to find any real help from any of the teams that'll be left when it's my turn again.

Interesting.  i got 50 million out of the Indians, and about 55 million out of the Brewers (depending on who I decide to use as that 10th player).  I was concerned about catcher, which is why (rightly or wrongly) I shied away from the Boston Braves.  But, Sophie, my team sure can field!

doh. ybj is at the top of the leaderboard. we need some picks to distract me from this nonsense :)
Darn. I went back and looked at the Boston Braves that I passed up for Colorado.  I think I'd do it again.

Was hoping for that Braves squad but we will take the Brooklyn Robins

Can't decide which one of these Browns to use:
  • George Stone
  • Heinie Manush
  • Ken Williams
  • Bob Caruthers
They're all great and deserve to be selected.  I recommend choosing them instead of King, Chamberlain, O'Neill, and Sisler.
Great advice!

My current payroll is $127M with 14 players - I haven't finalized this yet.  Unlike some others I think there still may be a little help left in Rnd 3.  Hope so.

Any of this could change, but in my draft center right now I'm at only $113M, of which $64.5M is Rockies hitting, and desperately needing to dig up some innings in Round 3.

When I was researching this draft I assigned every franchise a grade - a score between 1-100. Most are in increments of 5. When we're done I will post the rankings for everyone's 3 teams. But that huge Boston Braves pick puts sgsmith at the top of the leaderboard so far.
While I love the time/energy and brains required to do this, I do have a 'quibble';

I think the 'score' would depend on the round taken...The Yankees have a 'value' when you only get to take 5...They would have a MUCH higher value had they lasted til the 2nd round and you could have taken 10...

My Colonels have much more 'value' as a 1st rd pick where I only need to take 5 players...They would have a lower value if I had to take 10...

Not sure I presented that very well, but I know what I'm trying to say...

Not in exactly those words, dilly, but I had the same thought.

That's why I traded out of that division
