I have over a 100 Players working out at the Complex, all Canidates to be selected in the 1st 2 Rounds. As things appear a bit slow in the Draft Center, I've decided to take a ride over to our Player Complex. Two Ball Players, catch my attention in the Batting Cage Both guys are future Hall of Famers. The 1st of the two to step into the Batting Cage measures 6'0 195 Ibs , 24 Years Old and Bats Left Handed. He swings hard at the Ball, everytime its Pitched to him. He seems to throw his body into every swing. Needless to say he connected on about a dozen Balls and sent them towering out of the complex. The 2cond of the Two steps into the Batting Cage and measures 6'2 188 Ibs, 30 Years Ild and Bats Left Handed. This guy has a much smother swing and hits some wicked line drives out of the Complex. I wrote down their names, and continued my stroll in the Complex
Every one at the Compex keeps asking me the same question. Mr Outbacker do you want to win now or build for the future. And my ans. is always the same; I don't know. I guess, to even to begin to ans. that question, you'd have to compare the Players who will be available in 21/71 with Players who will be available in later years. In other words if you want to make a certain Year, a building Year, then you'll want that Year to be a Year when the Draft is Rich, because you'll probably be part it. Then, I took a walk over to the Pitchers and Catchers. Some of the Pitchers are throwing with a Batter, while other are throwing only to their Catcher. I see this Right Handed Pitcher on the mound 5"11" 185 Ibs and 38 Years Old Pitching to a Batter with his Catcher and Umpire. This guy appeared to have unbelievable contol as it seemed every Pitch was in the Strike Zone, and for the time that I was their he kept every Ball in the Yard. But this Pitcher was sweating like a pig on the mound. I wondered how this old man was invited to our Complex, being that it was only for 1st and 2cond Rounders. But yet I took a liking to the old guy and wrote down his name as maybe a 3rd or 4th Rounder.
Then I saw a 6'4" Left Hander 25 Years Old throwing off on the side with s Catcher. He had plenty of pop in that fastball. Yes a HOFer as well. I thought he would be just what the Doctor ordered, to Pitch against all those 1920 Left Handed Bats. I briefly interrupted him to introduce myself and ask the young man if he would like to Pitch for my Team. He said he would. But I knew in my heart that this is probably wishful thinking on my part, as this young Pitcher is almost certain to be drafted by another Team before my 24th Pick arrives,
