Ultimate Baseball Season Winter Meeting XXXIII Topic

As promised at the start of Season XXXII, I will have the Winter Meetings for Season XXXIII. The Winter Meeting is open to current owners, past owners, and potential new owners who may have any comments (good or bad) about the The Ultimate Baseball Season theme league and "possible" rule changes.

I will review all comments and recommendations weighing the "Pros" and "Cons" of each. I will also be consulting some advisers on their feedback as well to help me decide.

The Winter Meetings will last to June 22, 2012. This is the All-Star break for Season XXXII. Any rule changes, if any, that will be implemented for Season XXXIII will be finalized. This way owners may start doing research of their season for Season XXXIII.

Let the Winter Meetings begin!!!

Winter Meetings for Season XXXII changes:
  1. AAA. Average (6 Hitters, 2 Pitchers)
  2. No use of DH. Will review option in future seasons.
  3. Random alignment of seasons will occur once.
  4. In conjunction to random realignment, waive the rule that two teams that are owned by the same owner MUST be in separate leagues.

For your reference, following are the current rules to The Ultimate Baseball Season:

  • Pick any baseball season that is not BLACKLISTED. Select ONLY players who played during that season. The season is EXCLUSIVE.
  • Pick a ball park that is not BLACKLISTED and was used in the season you pick; however, ball park is EXCLUSIVE league wide.
  • For the initial declaration of seasons/stadiums, returning owners from the previous season MUST select a different season/stadium that they just used. (aka "1912" Rule). The ONLY exception is if AFTER the initial declaration of seasons/stadiums have been completed. Then a returning owner may reclaim that season or stadium for the upcoming season.
  • $120M salary cap.
  • No Clones, No DH,  No WW.
  • WAA AAA (12/10).
  • Trades of AAA players ONLY.
  • Team name MUST include season you pick (i.e. All-Stars of 1980).
  • Teams will be realigned per season.
  • Two team limit per owner. However, the second team will be placed on the waitlist upon declaration. If selecting two seasons, try and pick them far apart from each other as seasons will be realigned by seasons. To ensure both teams are in SEPARATE leagues, please refer to the league alignment for reference. The reason the second team is placed on the waitlist is because I want to give as many owners the opportunity to qualify for The ultimate baseball season Tournament of Champions. If the league is NOT filled at the time the World Series is completed, any owner who declared a second team will be able to fill the spot.
  • $10 GC awarded to WS season winner. This will be provided by WIS Admin after every fifth season starting from Season VIII.

League ID will be provided once playoffs begin.

LEAGUE will start after the World Series of Season XXII has ended or when ALL temporary seasons/stadiums have been eliminated from playoffs.

I think this has been a very good league for a long time.  In my opinon, the only thing subject to change would be the use of AAA.  I would prefer that there be no AAA and the year you pick provides all of the players you use.

I like this idea. This way the roster is TRULY of that season. I have heard you can do this but I don't know how to set that up in the league. Does anyone know how to set this up?

I agree on NO-AAA... I think the easiest way to implement would be state no AAA as a rule and then to set AAA to way below average and the minimum number of AAA players (if you cannot set to zero)... this way there is no incentive to use AAA (f you cannot simply remove outright)....

One idea I think would be fun would be to alternate between DH and NO DH (ex: year 29 Yes to DH and year 30 No to DH).... some years like 1994 have two GREAT 1B (Thomas/Bagwell) and it would be great to have a chance to use both.

I definitely want to change the current status of AAA. The original purpose of the AAA was to help out the older generation seasons because there weren't that many players available to them. But it seems that AAA is being used a lot and there are lots of 200K players that get drafted but sent to the minors. We need to keep the integrity of the draft as much as possible.

I am not a big fan of the DH. But we can look at options. Does WIS allow DH in one league and no DH in the other league?

I think it has to be consistent for both leagues (I am not sure though).  I do not feel really strongly about this - just an idea as a change of pace.  Either way I am good.

Another idea that might spice up the world series a little bit (if it needs it) would be to have the winning league determine the DH/No DH decision for the next season.  If the AL wins, the next season uses a DH, if the NL (older seasons) wins - the next season the pitchers hit.

There could be an issue creating the next season without knowing the WS winner though, so you could do best overall record determines the DH/No DH.

For AAA, I like it to be able to fill some holes in a particular season's roster, but agree it is not necessary.  It would be a major change to the theme though, we'd have to throw some asterisks on the records page for sure.

I like it. We will borrow from Bud Selig. It "Counts" now. LOL.

I agree. We cannot wait for the WS winner to determine the DH/no DH rule. Maybe the team with the best overall record will determine this for the next season. I will need to establish some tie breakers to determine which owner will decide.

I am still debating the AAA. I would replace AAA if we can have it where each season is able to select players "Specific" to their season. Again I have heard this can be done. But I don't know how to set that up in the league. I guess I will send a help ticket to find out. Stay tuned!!!

I don't think * will be needed. The AAA right now is WAA. If we eliminate AAA or lower the ratings of the AAA, I don't see it being an issue for the records.
