WILD....WILD.....WILD....game. WILD game.
The 1975 Reds stage a FURIOUS ninth inning rally to tie the game at 7, mainly powered by a Tony Perez 3 run HR. I will never again make fun of him being viewed as a "clutch" player. Which doesn't exist. Because holy crap that was clutch. I had my closer, Rawley Eastwick in in the ninth and tenth, and he tired and couldn't get through the 10th, and I HAD to bring in Pedro Borbon. His peripheral stats are ok, but he had a .300 OAV. Yikes. So he obviously gave up what looked like the game-winning hit...
To the bottom of the tenth...I only had 5 pitchers in the pen, and had already thrown four of them, and Borbon had a .290 avg, so I let him hit. No dice...one out. Pete Rose didn't get a hit...two outs. Joe Morgan saved the day, keeping the game alive with a walk. ackety subbed out for a better catcher, but that didn't matter as Morgan stole his fourth base of the game. Two outs...runner in scoring position...Johnny Bench at the plate.
I hate Bench. I use him and he sucks. It never works out for me. Ever.
2-run HR for Bench. Ballgame. Wow. 9-8 1975 Reds.
Cobb went 3-3 with 2 walks, Rose went OH FER SIX! 0-6!!!! Nearly killed us, considering right behind him Morgan was 2 for 5 with 4 steals...Bench was 3 for 6...I mean, it could have been a whitewashing if Rose had gotten a couple hits.
I threw Gullett, ackety threw Mullin. Neither starter was all that good.
