Suicide Squeeze Bunt Topic

I just hate when owners do a bunt in a close game in the later innings

Sometimes it's the right play but not in every instance.

Just ran an experiment with bunting bases loaded with less than 2 out works best with pitchers and speedsters 10 of 12 times successful with power hitters 30+ hr avg .300> only worked 2 of 8 times

That's why some people will bring Ted Lilly in to hit for Reggie Jackson to bunt. The fact that it works 10 of 12 times seems to indicate a problem.

There in lies the problem in changing the program so we should in our league summary have it specified the way to handle the situation, because you can't eliminate the problem altogether because the squeeze play is used occasionally, but possibly set up a lg standard where you are not allowed to pinch hit for a player while running a squeeze play.  I know that's not a perfect scenario just a suggestion.

habsfan1 brought this to my attention and I've seen the light.  I will never ever use the squeeze again in live play.

I'm just wondering if the defense uses HOLD the runners, does it affect the success rate?

Heh...no worries harrelson!

I haven't minded the squeeze with the pitcher at the plate, but I always figured it was seen as wrong if anyone else was batting.  That being said, I wish I knew in advance who liked to use that strategy and who didn't, as I would just follow the same "rules".  ...problem is, the squeeze with a batter always seems to be used at the late in games to secure winning/tying runs.  I end up spending the next game desperately looking for an opportunity to get back at that owner

Admin response:  We will be reviewing the logic.

Admin was also wanting to know about the success rate.  Anyone with any objective data on this subject should post it.

This is just one instance, but it should almost never work. IF in, Hold on, reliever Eddie Guardado — who had 0 at bats in RL that season — at the plate, and 50-speed Kent Hrbek the runner at 3B. If the sim woorked properly, by far the most common result would be Guardado out at 1B and Hrbek holding at 3B. (For admin if you're monitoring this, it was the Minnesota Twins-Tape Pedro to the Pole 4/8 am game in MLB94116.) Ticket also sent.

  • Put out a minor engine patch that adjusts success rate for suicide and safety squeezes in live play for when the infield is in and/or when runners are being held on. The success rate has been substantially lowered.

I was about to tell y'all that was the response I got, that they have reviewed the logic and will put a patch out shortly.  I guess they beat me to it.  Can't wait to try it out.
