And bring back the Sunday Double-Header!  You could cut three weeks off the season and not have these late fall abominations where it's FREEZING during the World Series.

Yes doubleheaders are the way to go,  Just looked at baseball reference and did a quick study,

Reds & yanks both started the season on April 11th and ended Oct 1, both had around 20 doubleheaders some scheduled some not, there must have been some kind of snowstorm in April of 1961 because there are big gaps of games not played in April.  Also they were able to fit in 2 all star games that year.

About what? Letting the five Republicans on the Supreme Court decide an election he won by half a million votes?

A presidential election in which the popular vote did not decide the outcome.  Let's see, before that, when was the last time a candidate won with less than 50% of the popular vote ... hmmm ... oh, that's right.  Bill Clinton.

Saw a documentary on ESPNU where Nixon in 1969 declared the the winner of a  Texas Arkansas game would be the National Champs,  even though Penn State was undefeated.  He still carried Pa. in the 1972 election.

Just a few salient points:

1. Actually it was seven Justices who voted that Florida violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution in how they pursued the recounts; two dissented on other issues.

2. The nut of the Court's decision was that Florida could not change the election laws after the election. The recounts could continue but only if they followed established Florida law. We don't really want States changing how votes are counted AFTER elections do we?

3. Every recount since the election has resulted in a Bush victory, not a single one gave Florida to Gore. Irrelevant to the Court's decision, but underscores the fact that the Supreme Court in no way, shape, or form, "gave" Florida to Bush.

PF it was just a joke to reply to ArlenWilliams' provocation. You can let it go. Besides I voted for Nader in that election.

Being a youth, I don't know how doubleheaders work, as in what do the fans do? The fans have to pay for 2 games? Do they tell the fans to leave and more fans come in later? I get one game plays at 1 and another at 8 and there's time in between to clean and take care of the field but how did they deal with fans in doubleheaders?

It used to happen both ways.  Originally, it was one ticket for both games, with an hour or so break between games.  Then, when some doubleheaders were scheduled to make up rainouts, they came up with the day/night doubleheader - two admissions, one for a late morning or early afternoon game, one for a night game..

It was 2 for one during the 70's.  My father (who hated baseball, his novena caused the 1981 baseball strike) would take us to a double header and then we would leave after the first game because he didn't want to get stuck in traffic, now it makes sense.

They were both lousy candidates.  Gore lost his home state, and Bush had to cheat in a state where his brother was governor.  They should have had another vote and let McCain run against bill bradley.
