In addition to the 48 hits we had a few walks -- 22 to be exact.  Plus the other team made 7 errors.  The boxscore's from a "Loser" theme, and my team's one of the few that's perversely trying to win instead of lose.

By the way, my team's 5-3.  There are two teams in the division ahead of me, at 8-0 and 6-2, which are trying to lose.  Go figure...

Coombs hit his pitch count limit and there was no choice but to take him out. He might have given up a run or two and narrowed the margin of victory.

EXTRA!  EXTRA!  READ ALL ABOUT IT!  NO-COOKIE TEAM MAKES OL PLAYOFFS!

My Clayton Kershaw tribute team just clinched a wild card in an Open League (88-72).  I'll be resting most of my regulars in the final two games, so here are (more or less) the final stats for my starting 8 and my rotation, along with the number of times they've previously been used in OLs:

C 1936 Babe Phelps (11 previous uses)
.306/.369/.388

1B 1888 Jake Beckley
(6)
.349/.368/.446

2B 2008 Joe Inglett (4)
.291/.324/.410

3B 1920 Earl Smith (5)
.322/.337/.434

SS 1922 Russ Wrightstone (25)
.274/.309/.374

LF 1897 Willie Keeler (10)
.409/.436/.481

CF 1897 Fred Clarke (Virgin!)
.368/.426/.474

RF 1897 Chief Sockalexis (6)
.326/.371/.394

SP 2011 Clayton Kershaw (121)
25-6, 3.07

SP 2012 Clayton Kershaw (38)
13-10, 5.22

SP 2013 Clayton Kershaw
(70)
19-15, 3.57

SP 2014 Clayton Kershaw (47)
17-13, 4.13

I did draft a few of the usual suspect scrubs (H. Clark, W. Delgado, G. Cooper), but the above dozen were the core of the team.

Average # of uses: 28.

Average # for just the batters: 8.

Two active streaks in my Take Two theme: Team A is on an L10, and Team B a W13.

Nothing that unusual about that, except...

Before Team A started losing, they were 44-26 (.629).

Before Team B started winning, they were 24-43 (.358).

In the Exclusive Ownership league, Jeff Blauser started the season 0-19.  Finally, he collected his first two hits of the season in the same game.  They were both grand slams.

2001 Randy Johnson hits a grand slam to CF at Minute Maid. 436 feet away! Who knew he had that kind of power!

Damn crazy.  I did a team a while back of all guys who had been picked less than 15 times in the SIM.  Didn't make the playoffs but went 86-76.  I considered them a success....I'll see if I can't find the spreadsheet with the players.

There was a Theme like this a few years ago. Normal OL rules (Don't recall if it allowed AAA), but all players had to have 20 or fewer OL appearances. Tough teams to assemble. If there's interest, I'll post it.

BUT SIGN UP FOR "THERE'S NO 'WE' IN 'TEAM'" FIRST!

Update on my no-cookie Clayton Kershaw OL team:

We won the first playoff round (vs. a team called, ahem, Trying the Hojo at Short thing).

In the second round, we had split the first 6 games.  All 3 losses were by a single run.  After we won game 6 by a blowout, I posted:

"Prediction: We lose game 7 by a run (after that 14-0 game 6 win)."

We lost game 7...2-1 on a bottom of the 9th two-out single.

Bottom 9, tie game, one out.  Rickey Henderson singles.  Before the next at-bat is completed, he steals second, third, AND HOME for the game-winning run!
