I am anxious to see how Greinke's numbers will normalize in the 2015 sim. Arrieta's too. They will be awesome. But if he squares off against 1978 Guidry he will have an unfair advantage. He doesn't face the dh. Shouldn't the sim make adjustments to pitchers who make them more directly comparable between AL and Nl? What would Guidry's 1978 season look like if we replace the dh pa s with pitchers pa s? I'd like to see that.

This should already be factored into how normalization works. League averages include pitchers and DH's PAs.

Exactly. And all other AL pitchers (1972 and later) also deal with the DH.

We can find out real quick how they will do, get 16 people to join an exhibition leagues, with grienke & Guidry then post their stats on this site.

Well I started put Grienke on the 78 Yanks and they will play in Dodger Stadium

This was a bad idea, Guidry won had a 2.89 ERA and a whip of 1.39, Grienke had 6.65 era and 1.85 Whip however they did not face the same opponents and they did not start out at 100% for the 3rd start

One other thing we do know is that the normalization we can do is of course relative to peers.  Greinke had 96% of the IP total of the league leader this year, so he pitched about as much as anybody.  Guidry had only 82% of the IP total of the league leader in 1978.  We can't really compare what they did in terms of IP to one another since their eras are not the same, but what is clear is that 2015 Greinke's ERA+ is computed relative to contemporaries relative to whom he threw more innings than the contemporaries against whom Guidry's ERA+ was calculated.

1977 and 1978 - Guidry beats the Dodgers in the World Series for a NY team.

2015 - Greinke fails the Dodgers against  a NY team.
