i know...but the dnc needs to be taught a lesson. about democracy.
Ironically, the DNC is trying to teach its constituency a lesson about the realities of democracy. The lesson is that a small subset of the population - like the one that votes in a single-part primary - can't win a larger election without support. The nomination process is
not inherently democratic. Both parties do rely on an elective system, but as I'm sure you're aware, nothing codified requires this of them. Most 3rd parties have de facto nomination processes. The only part that is necessarily democratic in nature is the general election. The existence of superdelegates allows party leadership to correct for bias in the subset of voters in the primary if they feel it's necessary to do so.
If they're really honest with themselves, I think most of his supporters recognize that Bernie is not a strong candidate in a general election. Of course, right now, neither is Hillary. Politically she's a better candidate, but with so many personal issues at the moment it's a rough road for either of them. But you see the point. Bernie has self-identified as a socialist. That's a very bad word for not only Republicans but also the independents and moderate Democrats. It's a real problem in a general election, but not as much in a primary where a small percentage of party membership, typically concentrated toward the extreme end, shows up at the polls.
