Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby hold records for total bases in a season from the left and right sides of the plate. Who has the most as a switch hitter?
This is a GREAT question.

I figured it was Mantle, but I was wrong (though he is very close.) I would NEVER have come up with the right answer.
Big Puma Lance Berkman right? I remember going to Astros games and every time he got a hit, it would show a list with switch hitters
Nope

The answer surprised me too.

Was it Ripper Collins? He's got that one huge season in '35, I think.

Nope

38 doubles, 20 triples, 30 HR, won the MVP but hit under .300

His 380 total bases tied with '62 Frank Robinson, '28 Ruth, '38 Greenberg, and '98 Castilla...

That season sounds like Jimmy Rollins with the 20 triples...

Yessir, his 2007 season...

I see Ripper Collins had 369 total bases in '34, but even that was bested by Teixeira and Mantle, in addition to Rollins, amongst switch-hitters.

First, two good quotes:

"There is no sporting event like Opening Day, with its sense of beating back the Forces of Darkness and the National Football League." - George Vecsey (writer, author "Coal Miner's Daughter" and baseball columnist for the NY Times).

"I believe that if Shoeless Joe Jackson were playing today he would have a shoe contract." - Don Mattingly

Now, three trivia questions:

Who was the last pitcher to pitch 30 complete games in a season?

Who batter holds the record for most unintentional walks?

Who stole five bases in a game without scoring a run?

Too easy. Francisco Liriano. Huge fan, always have him on my team in MLB the Show since MLB the Show '10. His slider is so nasty in that game.

For the 2nd one I'm going with Rickey Henderson. He knew when not to swing

For the 1st one. Imma go with a couple of my Tigers guys. Is it either Mickey Lolich or Denny McLain?
3/23/2016 11:34 AM
For the pitcher, I'm gonna guess one of the knuckleballers, so Niekro (one or the other) or Wilbur Wood.
3/23/2016 11:36 AM
For the 3rd one. I'm guessing Billy Hamilton on last year's Reds
