This question is without a minimum of PA or AB- and those of you guessing that it is someone with a relatively low number of ABs are on the right track.

For the 30/30 was it Tommy Harper? I seem to remember the announcers making a big deal about it when the Red Sox traded for him back when I was a kid. (Many nights wasted listening to Ned Martin)

Bonds is neither the 30-30 guy (did not play in the AL in any case) nor the answer to the HR/hits ratio.

Neither is Kingman.
Bonds did play in the AL from 75-79, and in fact hit 30/30 three times.

Who holds the record for highest ratio of career home runs to career hits?

in 1922 Ken Williams of the Browns hit 30 home runs and stole 30 bases. Who was the first AL players to accomplish this feature after Williams?
As of this morning, the record is held by Trevor Story...100% of his career hits are HR

...and crazystengel and contrarian23 weigh in as wiseguys !

Funny, both of you, but 30/30 was Tommy Harper and the player with the highest career ratio of home runs to hits is...

still to be named. I ain't givin' it away just yet, this one is too much fun.

I actually wasn't being a wise guy...Story does hold the record.

Another player who has the 100% ratio is Daniel Norris...1 career hit, 1 home run.

Are you restricting this to players who are no longer active?
4/5/2016 3:25 PM
There are several others players who only career hit was a home run...some of whom are retired.

For players who hit 2 career HR (not including Story) there are several who did it with only 3 career hits. Story is the only one who is 2 HR for 2 hits.

For players who hit 3 career HR, there is one who did it with only 3 career hits...and he is retired.

Is there a minimum hit threshold you are using for this question?

4/5/2016 3:39 PM
Yes, the minimum threshold is 21 career home runs.

The answer, at least so far as I had known up to this thread being posted is...

Jack Harshman P - 21 homers, 79 career hits.

That is a very cool stat, to be sure!

I think McGwire's ratio might be higher. Did he have around 600 HRs with only 1800 hits?

Mcgwire's is higher 583 of 1626.

Actually doing more math Kingman is higher as well
442 of 1575

Interesting combalt. Killebrew is also higher (573/2086 = .275, while 21/79 = .266).
Adam Dunn (462/1631 = .283) is higher.
Rob Deer (230/853 = .270) is higher.

Nobody is touching McGwire though...again provided the threshold is above, say, 20 HR.

Is it not Adam Dunn?
