Can't lie, looked it up the triple crown winners and his name stood way out......I did figure it was some guy before 1900 though

Considering that they only played 60 games in the season (although Hines and some teammates are credited with 62), I wonder what his HR/9 normalized would look like.  How many do you expect when the league leader hits 4?

Paul Hines is ripping it up for me (.440+) in a random assigned player league...and I get his teammate Cap Anson too...who is also at .400+.

I was referring to the more traditional batting Triple Crown, but as I did not specify Bucky Walters fits the bill!  Off the top of my head, I don't know if there are any other pitching Trilpe Crown winners who aren't in the Hall, though.  I'm sure someone will answer below ...

Um, 1887 Tip O'Neill was not only a triple crown winner, he posted one of the most amazing stat lines in baseball history.  He led his league in every offensive category except walks and stolen bases.

And the good people of Massachusetts never forgot that, sending him to the House of Representatives for many, many years.

Didn't Johan Santana win it a couple years ago?   He obviously doesn't qualify for the Hall yet.

Actually you are kind of right.  Many Irish Americans were named Tip in honor of James "Tip" O'Neill, the Speaker of the House was one of them.
