HELP!!! Has Sparky lost his mind??? Topic

in a pm game loss this afternoon, Sparky took out two of my best players for "REST" entering the 9th inning of a 10-6 ballgame......but I do NOT have resting players checked as an option for him to even consider in my managerial settings???

Then, he made two pinch-hitting moves for me that made no sense at all.

1970 Progressive.......and he pinch-hit Dave Hansen for Pete Rose and then Ed Speizio for Tony Olivo.......in neither case did the pinch-hitter have a better average, or power or anything else over the players being replaced.

What's going on here???

For the PH one... there is an "other" hierarchy which I am guessing was used. It's not really a close game, so that's probably why. (vs LH/contact, vs LH/power, vs LH/other, etc)

As for resting the guys, I have no idea.

I understand the "other", but why would it even be necessary to pinch-hit for either player in the first place?  Neither was fatigued.  Neither was asked to be rested.  Neither was a defensive replacement.  Down four runs = what the hell???

Pinch-hit for power?  Pinch-hit for average??  Pinch-hit for on-base???  Using an inferior PH'er just for the hell of it.....OTHER?!?!?

I guess you might be onto something with the L/R thing.......opponent brought in a LH RP the previous inning......but pull the switch-hitting Rose for an inferior Hansen just because Hansen is RH?  Olivo is a lefty, so maybe I could see pinch-hitting for him, but Speizio is a vastly inferior hitter.

If this turns out to be the case, I might have to SERIOUSLY revisit my pinch-hitting settings and heirarchies!

My whine is just the opposite today .... top of the 8th inning tied at nothing to nothing with 2 outs and a man on 2nd Sparky lets the .162 hitting John Smoltz swing the bat ..... grrrrrrrrrrrrr

....and if Sparky would have hit for him and the replacement guy gave up the winning run the next inning, you would have whined about your pitcher with the shut-out being pulled, too........

I had a situation which was the opposite, where Sparky PH for an SP I would have left in.  Admin's response was that PH decisions are made solely on batting situation, not how the SP is doing.  Send a ticket; what Sparky did in your situation is the opposite of what I was told!

I'd still rather have Sparky manage my Tigers than Jim Leyland!!!

no, dt....but why should they have to be?  There are a couple of guys who I will click no rest in the advanced settings, as I never want them out of a game.....but shouldn't (or don't) the managerial settings take preference here?  If I set the manager setting to NOT sub for rest.......shouldn't that be no rest across the board?

I realized today that I should add this note: I believe that when you check off rest for a player in the Advanced Settings then Sparky will not rest him no matter what you do with the Managerial Settings.

but I still have to repeat my original question.......regardless of Advanced Settings, if you have your managerial settings set to not use rest in the first place, why should it matter?  AND, why is Sparky still resting my players??

Do the managerial settings not work?  Not mean anything??  Arrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh!
