Are high stolen base settings a waste ? Topic

What are the opinions on setting your numbers to steal as much as possible ?  And I mean players with histories of stealing a lot of bases.  I like the higher cap leagues and it seems like it might be a waste of base runners.

Your baserunners "see" the catchers arm and Sparky takes that into account when deciding to steal.  I have only used a SB team once at a cap over $80M, and they seemed to do fine

If you're in a high cap league, I would say it depends on your park and how you draft, but it can definitely work.  I'm currently in a high cap league where, although I only have one player hitting over .300 (I'm playing in Pacific Bell) my team leads the league in SBs and has the best record in the league with 95 wins with 21 to play.  So, IMO, it can definitely work.

Stolen base in higher cap is kind of a conundrum. On the one hand, you can take big hitters with huge avg/2b/3b/hr on your team, so if you get a caught stealing, that is a huge out and takes an ab for a big bat. On the other hand, higher cap leagues sees alot of catchers with mediocre to poor arms, so an elite base stealer have a very high sb success rate. How to weigh these two sides is up to the coach.

If you have good speed will you get aggressive base running, extra base taking, etc. By Setting base stealing to 0.  But set aggressive to very aggressive on base running ?  I don't want to lose runs to CS.

Exactly Tianyi!!!  You don't see Carter or Roseboro in high cap leagues.  Mostly its a B+ arm Foxx or something of the sort.  And a few 50+ steal guys with an 80% RL success rate will do some damage against that kind of arm, which is especially helpful if you're playing in a pitcher's park.

You also generate runs by stealing second and potentially same outs. Prevents double play and gets a runner in scoring position. Speed probably is good up to 120, maybe 140M. Higher cap, I prefer pure xbh, although there are guys who can give you the .400 avg and a 75-80% SB success rate. That speed is huge when almost every team is running out Jimmy Foxx or King Kelly.

In all the leagues the SB are messed up.  I dont care if you have IRod or Yadi out there, if Raines/Henderson or any other 75% SB guy is not held on 1B, it ought to be 95%+ success rate.  If 1B is playing behind them and they get a couple of steps NO ONE will throw them out.  However, just another WIS bug to be dealt with.....
