09 Zobrist isn't bad at all.  But almost $5mil for a player you'll move around a lot is a little steep for me.  Although he's not a "star", but on a cheaper level, and every bit as versatile as Zobrist, if not more, I'm partial to 87 Jose Oquendo. For less than $2mil you get a guy with more than 300 PAs, a .400 OBP and who can play every position on the field respectably except for catcher.

Being a fan of whitey ball I appreciate the play of Oquendo.  Jose benefitted greatly from how Whitey played him.  Last I heard he was a coach for the Cardinals.

3rd base coach heir apparent to LaRussa and looking down the road to break Schoendist's record for years in a Cardinals uni.

contrarian is right on.
Contrarian may be correct but doesn't anyone get tired of using the same old players time after time after time.   There are thousands of players to choose from but they never surface because they are not cookies.  I don't place the blame on the team owners but I place blame on what if sports.  I am tired of playing against Coleman, Segui, Dilone and Jack Taylor.  These guys didn't do anything in their professional career with the exception of Coleman who had a handful of decent years.  There were more pitchers in baseball than just Maddux, Martinez, Joss, and Ed Summers.  This is a very addicting game and I respect everyone's opinion about it but I grew tired of it.  It is time for them to do away with the cookies and just maybe WhatifSports may get a larger following.
152 wins for Jack Taylor in a 10 year career and holds a major league record that will never be broken by throwing 187 consecutive complete games.  I think he did something in his professional career.

I'm sure his point centered around the quality of Jack Taylor's career.

Yes, but Taylor had a handful of quality seasons.  Saying that Taylor didn't do anything in his professional career is quite the stretch in my estimation.

I didn't mean to say anything negative about Jack Taylor.  I am just saying that because of cookies, players like Coleman, Segui and Dione are "SUPERSTARS".  Why should they be performing better than players like Al Kaline or Carl Yastremski who you rarely see being used outside of a Theme League.

The solution of course is to go to market based pricing. The more a player gets used, the higher their salary goes. The less they get used, the more their salary drops. Do the repricing once or twice a year.

I agree with Seamar.  Cookies suck!!!  I realize that the players cannot function on the same level from one season to another, but it is ridiculous to think that Bip Roberts was a better player than Kaline or Mays; however, on the average he outperforms them both.  Get rid of the cookies NOW.............  And Contrarain is right, penalize the owners for using the same parks over and over and over.   It's not fair and it discourages owners from deviating from the "norm" in an effort to create diversity when they know that their team is just going to be an also ran finishing below .500...............

-- Make switchhitters more expensive (right now, I don't think there's any price premium for switchhitters, but they have an obvious advantage in the algorithm compared to other players of equivalent stats)

My understanding, which may be wrong, is that hitters with the platoon advantage get a bonus while hitters without it get a penalty.  Switch hitters get no bonus or penalty.
Yes that is what admin says.  However, I am guessing that there is a mistake in the algorithm and switch hitter are given an advantage from both sides of the plate.  I don't know how else you could account for the relative sucess of switch hitters across the board.
