I like that you see his name as "Zubunism".  That should be a word.  For example, when people type "llamanuts", that's a zubunism.

I've often misread usernames on here. Or even misinterpreted them. For example, for a while, I read it as Boo-tone, not Boot-one...

I always used to think Bootone was Boo-tone rather than Boot-one.  Which makes me wonder whether I've been misinterpreting Boogerlips as Booger-lips when, in fact, it is really Boog-erlips.

And bright boy here (that would be me) just figured out a few days ago that Uncleal was Uncle-Al rather than Un-cleal.

I believe you could build a whole dictionary around Zubinsum.  Some examples --

Zubinsumatra (n.) A particularly volcanic state of mind, often brought on by fundamental misunderstandings of the SIM algorithms.

Zu-bin-sum (n.) A Middle Eastern breakfast tradition that inspired the Chinese Zu dim sun, shorthanded over time to simply dim sum.

Zubinsumo (n.)  Particularly rigorous mental calisthenics expended while trying to apply logic and common sense to some of the SIM's more arbitrary outcomes.  Colloq., literally, "a great mind wrestling".

Anyway, congrats on the WS win.  You obviously know what you're doing, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut around you "Irrandomers" from now on. 

While I'm definitely not looking for a fight with Crazy, because I lack his experience and knowledge of the inticacies of this game.  However, I believe you did the RIGHT thing by making changes, because as you noted, standing "pat" with a losing team after 115 games is ridiculous and would've likely kept you from making the playoffs.  But whatever changes you made, apparently they did the trick irrespective of whether it was "randomness" or just pure luck. But it turned the team around, and I applaud you for having the guts and balls to a risk. Your team reminds me of a team I once had that was 17 games out of first halfway through the season, and after some PRUDENT changes, it ended up winning the division and going to the LCS before respectfully bowing out to a better team.

As I mentioned earlier, I have 1969 McCovey in a single-season prog.  In real life, his line looked like this:

.320/.453/.656, 45 HR

His OBP and SLG were the best among full-time MLB players in 1969, and his AVG and 45 HR were close to the best (6th and 4th, respectively).  So I was expecting a great season from him in my prog (home park: Tiger Stadium).

But after 82 games, this was his line:

.270/.383/.491, 18 HR

That's disappointing, no matter how you look at it.  I'm pretty sure the WW-happy owners would have dumped McCovey at that point (if not sooner).

Dumping him wasn't an option available to me, though.  And now here's his line after 140 games (just 58 games later):

.300/.425/.620, 45 HR

Should I conclude that WIS lifted the "curse" on McCovey at some point in the season?

IMO, his numbers after 82 games wouldn't warrant me dumping him. But if there was no improvement by the deadline, and I wasn't in first place in my division, if there was someone on the wire who was cost effective and comparable to his stats, I would've dumped him. But as I've duly noted, I'm a risk taker and have no problem rolling the dice. Just a philosophical difference with other owners, that's all.  But each person has to do what works for them.

I don't know if you play progs or not, but in a prog like this one (single-season, 20 teams vs. 24 in real life) you can expect a batter to improve on his real life numbers.  It's not like an OL where batters are constantly facing deadball pitchers in pitcher's parks; they're facing average pitchers in all sorts of parks.  In McCovey's case, he was the best hitter of 1969, but on my team at the all-star break he had maybe the 6th best OPS on my team.  It was a bad first half by any measure.

Personally I don't care that you or anyone else uses the WW.  In fact, I'd have nothing against being in a league where every other owner made 52 WW moves and had 10M in salary less than I did and won 76 games, ha ha.  You have the right to use the WW as much as you want -- it's your team, enjoy it however you like.  All I'm saying is, there's no such thing as a "bad version" of a player, and that's why I posted McCovey's numbers here (and why I posted the 1st half/2nd half numbers of other players in other threads).   

I'll drop any player that has an 0-fer game. AND GUESS WHAT??!!! I HAVE A 100% SUCCESS RATE OF THE NEW GUY DOING AS GOOD OR BETTER!!!!!!11 How can you argue with 100%???
