I was vaguely aware of George Van Haltren, but I had no idea that he put together nine straight seasons with the Giants in the `90's where he consistently batted around .330, and I would never have guessed that he had more than 2,500 hits in his career (2.544).  I'll bet he is the "least well known" name on a list of batters with 2,500+ career hits.  I never heard of either Chief Roseman (one great season in 1890) or Ezra Sutton (two good seasons in 1885 and 1887, great range at SS and several other positions, bargain priced for SIM at $3.3 MM).

Wasn't Van Haltren a pitcher too?   I thought he was the guys with 2000 hits and a 100 wins......I could be wrong.

George Van who?  Chronic underperformer.  Trivia value only.  :-)

Yes, also a pitcher.  Mainly an outfielder but also pitched and played SS.  Got about 40 wins over three seasons.

Gracias t1008.

There was a player with 2000 hits and 100 wins?  That's got to be someone from the 19th century - they were biting off 40 season wins chunks regularly back then.

I have heard of Erza Sutton and Van Haltren because they are oft discussed at the BBTF Hall of Merrit.  Sutton is in (proving that all "hall of fames" have wacky selections), but not Van Haltren as far as I know.

Back when I was a newbie, six years and 800 teams ago I had never heard of Elton Chamberlain. Literally everyone in the my first open league had him and he was always kicking my hitters butt. He was a lot cheaper back then. They adjusted a lot salaries soon after that .

Jack Doyle.  His '94 season is the best 1B bagain you'll find in the sim.
Over 560 PA's and only 3 strikeouts? Only 1 other guy has ever done that.   Talk about putting the ball in play.  Man on third with less than 2 outs, this is the guy I want at the plate. With those numbers, coupled with his batting average, I can see why he was able to drive in 100 runs on only 3hr's.

George Van Haltren...sure, of course...played with the Giants in the '90s like you say.  I remember him.  He played with Matt Williams, Bonds, Rich Aurilia...Dusty Baker was the manager.
