Waiver Wire decimation Topic

I'm surprised this hasn't been commented on in the forum, or perhaps I've missed it,  but I would bet everyone's wondering what happened to the waiver wire and why everyone there is at around 5 million or less.
I would be, so I'll spill the beans.  In a recently started Waiver Wire team building league I'm in,  we have a lot of money that is set aside for the waiver wire, to be used throughout the season as certain events transpire.  Three (experienced) owners there used their money right away and drafted every worthy player on the wire.  None of them are commenting on the situation.

Being new(bie),  I may be wrong but I see this as a real long-term problem for every league that uses the wire.   No one would drop higher priced players into there to pick up a 4 million dollar hack and so how can it ever grow unless artificially stocked ?   Correct me there.

Unless we find that their accounts were hacked, if I ever join a league and see either of those owners in it, I'll just back right out.   In the meanwhile, if you were wondering what was up, now you know.

Though I suppose because of the 10% transaction fee, higher priced players would eventually work their way onto the WW on their own.

I can't stand those WW leagues and really wish WIS would just ban them.

Thankfully they're not that frequent, but when one is in use, it throws things out of kilter for a while.
You're right contrarian23.   bootone had warned me against such leagues and I failed to take his advice.  However, this is an isolated case, I think.  It's not just a few of us hitting the wire, this is an all out assault by some experienced owners.  Were they hacked?  Are they vindictive?   I don't know, they're not talking.

I'm not sure what you're saying about the nature of the league and what it is you think the three owners did wrong.

Also, I don't use the WW often so I may be wrong, but I think they DO occassionaly artificially stock it.
Right, I'll be clearer.
This league is less than a week old.  We all started with below .500 teams and were given a 120Mil cap to build through the WW.  The rule is that each owner can only draft from the wire when one of the teams in their division hits a 10 win milestone, a rule which is apparently difficult to understand.   As an example, one of the three has already drafted 14 WW players and is still drafting today.
I'm not here to complain about their tactics; we'll deal with that.  But it explains what happened to the WW.  Thanks for responding.   I hope they do stock it.

Often times veterans join leagues like that because they see loopholes or advantages.  If they beat you too the punch, you should live and learn.  If league rules were violated you need to take it up with the commissioner.  I would also post in the league forum and see if your fellow league members think that this is a problem. IF AND ONLY IF, they violated rules, your league mates agree AND the commish ignores you, I would out them all in the forums. I would be very careful doing that until you know what happened for sure.

I am the commisiioner of the league in question, and I have sent tickets to admin to try and rectify the situation. The owners in question, wmds, goobama, bigfogger, completely ignored the rules and spirit of the league. The worst that could happen, IMO, is that admin does nothing, and they benefit from their cheating. I encouraged all managers in the league to submit tickets, squeaky wheels getting grease theory. Very frustrating.

If you tell admin to forfeit all the games for those teams and ban them from the playoffs they'll do it.  Or even just ban them from the playoffs - just tell admin who you want in instead come playoff time.  Point being they can't get away with it if you don't allow it.

When WW wire leagues are run well (ie no cheating) they are awesome.   They are one of the few non-progressive leagues I still play in.

That explains why the WW has been so dry lately.  Thanks for letting us know

Ditto to rubant4's comment, I thought they were just not bothering to refresh it as often.

I was the commissioner of a recent league where there were certain players ineligible to be claimed off the wire.  However, one owner decided to disregard the rules, play by his own and ignore my requests that he immediately cut the ineligible player.  Well, just as dahsdebater mentioned, I contacted WIS and they immediately adjusted the owner in question's record to reflect forfeits/losses for every game the ineligible player appeared in. So it definitely can be done.

The last WW league I was in, you were limited to the year of your team to pick from the WW.  Therefore there was no competition for WW prospects in the entire league.  The only problem being some of the owners picked some early years which resulted in very limited  WW opportunities.  I really liked that league.  You could also only add about $10m per season.  If another one started up, I'd be all over it.  I can't find the old forum postings to see who even ran the league.

Ahhhhh... one of the most disruptive leagues in WIS. I'm sure the leagues are fun... no arguement. But the fact of the matter is that they deny owners outside the league less than what they normally get when they buy an open league team. In my opinion (and I'm sure most don't care), the waiver wire leagues are selfish. They disregard the needs of the open leagues. Shame on WIS for allowing that. Just an FYI... I rarely use the waiver wire... so I'm not arguing for myself.
