Including pitchers batting, the average OL team has 6,423 PA in a season...

So, if you subtract pitchers, I'd estimate somewhere around 5,823...

Then if you subtract the 10%, you'd need about 5,295...

Then if you figure you'll get some useable AAA (i.e., worth about 75 PA each, times 6), you don't have any reason to ever draft more than the minimum of 4,800 for an OL (unless you're drafting a heavy offense team in a strong hitters park or plan on using the WW)...

5,295? If I draft less than 5500 PA in a non-AAA league then I'll probably have fatigue issues. but then I do a lot of pinch hitting for the pitcher.

In OL I wouldn even draft 4800 usable PA, I burn a couple positions with high PA 200k scrubs. AAA might not be very good but they're free so why not get higher quality PA.

I keep getting stuck not being able to drop my 200k guys because I fall short plate appearances.

I run into that problem too; frustrating.

dropping 200k guys is overrated

As long as they're still hitting reasonably, I will burn a $200K guy down to almost 0%, THEN dump him!!!!

I only know two or three 200K guys that hit reasonably.

I think it's very important to drop your $200k players in an open league.  Break out the calculator and make sure you still have 4800 PAs left over after subtracting your $200k players' PAs.  It's nice having a cool $1 mil or so for the WW to upgrade a player in the open leagues.  I've actually had pretty good luck with my AAA players.  How much are those players typically worth? I know they are better than the $200k they are paid in the open leagues. I'd guess they must be around $1 mil apiece.

Only problem I have with this mixtroy is I don't have the patience for the $200k guy to regain stamina.  A guy with 50 something PAs will take a while to get back to 100% after just 4 PAs.  I like to dump them to the WW early so I have ample time to use the cash to upgrade one of my relievers.  It's a crapshoot what is available on the WW.
