Anyone getting bored with the lack of changes? Topic

The same old strategies win.  The same players are used.  Anyone else getting a little bored here?

A few simple rule changes would shake things up...
- Eliminate the 10% PA "bonus"   Would cause people to look at different players, and maybe stock their bench.
- Make fatigue kick in immediately and hard.  You paid for 550 ab at .300 average.  You get them.  At 551-575, you get a .250 average.  576-600 a .200 average.  Beyond 600?  Man, what is that white thing the pitcher is throwing?  I can't seem to hit it.
- Have the hitters & pitchers meet in the middle for HR rate.  We still give too big an advantage to deadball pitchers on HR's allowed.

Shake things up a little...

I agree with changes to fatigue, especially on the hitting side. I used to be a staunch 100% or rest type owner, because I saw how fatigued pitchers would be slaughtered and always extrapolated that to hitters. After seeing the results of multiple teams with fatigued (85-95%) players, I've come to believe the hitting fatigue affects need to be adjusted. The penalty just isn't there.  If you nix the 10% bonus, then the current system may work as many of these players would be in the 75-80 range and that might make it work as it should. My biggest issue is that fatigue hammers you for the first 15 games of the season (that's why dampening is in place) and is pretty much non-existent past the All-Star break unless you abuse guys. I'd be an advocate for dropping the dampening concept and switching it around and get hammered by fatigue late if you abuse players..

I agree that HR allowed from deadball pitchers are still off, but if you just priced low HR pitchers approprately, then this would resolve itself as more individiduals would be forced to look at other pitchers to fit under the cap.

Pricing fielding at all positions a player is capable of playing would also remove many cookies. If you linearly add cost for other positions played on top of primary position, then these players would be priced at their real value.

I think that changing the fatigue for pitchers to an IP system would be better than the current number of pitches system. It would allow for owners to manage their staff more easily and would prevent people from stretching really good pitchers well beyond their real life IP.

My thoughts anyway.

Would be nice to see some of the mentioned changes. Until there is an update... I'm only going to play progressives.

I'm definitely thinking the same thing, Al.  Communication with (from) Admin has been practically nil.  The game needs changes and several suggestions have been made here and by the council but I've seen very few replies.

Same here... although there's one Theme League that I've been in for 30 season that I'm going to keep too.

Sure would be nice if someone at foxsports.com gave a crap about this SIM again.

I plan on staying in Donburgh's Exclusive Ownership theme.  I've played in it for at least 30 of the 37 seasons.  I also like SpotSell's Dodgeball league...great fun!

(1) Meh...
(2) Fatigue seems fine for me.  I guess unlike everyone else, my fatigued guys suck.
(3) I am not a fan of home runs, but I do agree on this.  The floor for pitcher HR/Hit should be a bit higher.

The problem with making fatigue kick in too hard or eliminating the 10% bonus is that not everybody checks in on their teams on a daily (or multiple times per day) basis.  Eliminating these cushions would be a big disadvantage for more casual owners.

Most of all, I agree this sim needs a shake up.  As things are, I have gotten rather bored.

Is fatigue even a factor at all anymore?

I just got beat in a TOC by '83 Lee Smith throwing 8 innings and 119 pitches. That is total bullsh*t. In game fatigue should have had him wasted by the 4th inning.

In OL, and OL based theme leagues, I see many different strategies used. I think this is the most diverse I have seen the sim. The nature of the game we play is such that there are always going to be bargains that many are going to desire. I agree with almost everything else said in this thread. I used to play Strat-O-Matic, they use a draft for every league, so that the same player will never appear on two ( or more) teams. I'd like to see something along those lines here.

That's horrible.  According to what WIS says about in-game fatigue, Smith should have been at 0% by about the 3rd or 4th inning at the latest.  Although of course 0% doesn't mean 0%; it seems to mean something like 20-50%.

I would like to eliminate the phoney names of AAA players.  Just use the real names.

I would like fatigue to hit much harder much earlier.

I would like to see the 10% PA/IP bonus reduced to 5%

Maybe time for an appearance change, a general graphic facelift.

I thought of that too spotsell, just use the real names unless a theme that wants false names.  I think fatigue should be updated too.  A guy at 97% should see a little more drop in his stats but I wouldnt go too far with it either.  I say all this but there is a chance I may retire and just keep my prog. league running for a while.

UPDATE

2/23/2012 6:18 PM
I agree with zubinsum.  Because of my schedule, and the fact this site's blocked where I work, I sometimes go as many as 4 or 5 games without being able to maintain my teams.  That already forces me to use players who are less prone to fatigue.  If the settings were more harsh, a few extra inning games could destroy my season.  Where's the fun in that?
