Defesnsive replacement hierarchy... Topic

here is one to ponder...  had a C/A+ OF'r listed as the number one replacement for a D/D-  RFer.  He was also listed as the #2 repolacement for LF and CF...  in this instance behind a guy already in the game.  Instead of replacing the RF'r he went in for a C-/A- CF'r.  Obviously this is easily remedied by removing him from the rotation for the other two OF positions but Sparky's decision defies logic.

Well, I wouldn't say it defies logic.  He did (a) improve your defense at (b) an important defensive position.  That is definitely a logical thing to do.

But of course I completely agree that it's not the BEST thing he could have done.  I've asked for this before in the suggestions forum.  Right now it appears that the defensive replacement algorithm starts with the most important defensive positions (SS, 2B, CF) and then works down the defensive spectrum to the less important positions.  There is some logic to that, but I think most of us would prefer that the algorithm be "what is the best possible overall defensive team I can put on the field."  This is no doubt more difficult to program, but it is what a real manager would do in most cases, and would also allow things like double switches (eg move a 1B to LF and bring in a new 1B), whereas right now that's not possible,

By the way, I think the easiest way to prevent your particular situation from happening again is not to change the hierarchies.  Instead, go into advanced setting and uncheck the Def Rep box for your LF and CF.

Agreed. I would very much prefer a setting where we could set "best overall defense": 8 players, 1 at each position, and when "defensive replacements" was triggered, switching to the best overall defense, regardless of where the 8 players are when they started the game. (Assuming none of them are set to rest or have already been removed, of course.)
