Choosing OF positions? Topic

What are reasonable strategies for picking defensive OF positions?

For example if you have three OFers with these def/range ratings:

#1: B-/A
#2: C/C+
#3: A-/D+

...who do you place at each OF position?  What are rules of thumb people use to make such decisions?

Best glove in CF because they make more plays. worst glove in RF though there's not as much difference between RF and LF.
#1 is best overall glove but does he belong in CF? there was a time in the past when range was king and #1 clearly belonged in CF .now range results  are more spread out between the 3 positions so I might put #3 in CF because he makes fewer errors.

Put #3 in CF.  Put #1 where they'll make more plays (RF or LF, depending on the handedness of ur opponents).

#1  CF
#2 RF
#3 LF

Sound like a Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Mel Ott outfield.  Just a guess and I know I couldn't possibly be right.  But I'd also go with the B-/A guy in CF.  Not much difference between an A- and B- fielder(error wise), But when taking into account both the plus plays of an A range guy and the minus plays of a D+ range guy you'll get a double effect and a greater disparity.  As far as LF and RF, usually close. If you can micro-manage, I'd switch them up depending on the hand orientation of the pitcher and league tendencies.

#1  CF
#2 RF
#3 LF

I agree with this.

i would go with #1 in CF because although #3 is rated as a better fielder, the difference between their two fielding grades isn't significant.  And the range of #1 is quite significant over the range of #3.

What do you mean a "double effect"?  If you face teams that are mostly right-handed, an A range LF will make more + plays than an A range CF.

Double effect meaning there will not just be (+ plays) by the A range guy, but also (- plays) by the D+ range guy, hence when added, a duel or double effect.  In every league I've ever been in more balls were hit to CF than to LF, So once again I'd definitely put the A range guy in CF.  More to your point, I did mention league tendencies....right?
