And how it relates to the sim.  http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8080945/now-hollywood-dust-settled-oakland-trying-win-unfair-game;

It's about the A's and post "money ball," but the check out the discussion of the current market inefficiencies the A's are trying to exploit (fielding and stolen bases), because OBP became too expensive after the market caught up, which effectively priced the A's out.  This is basically the same strategy that is dominating here right now and has for some time, and for very similar reasons. The prescient sim.

I wonder if Billy Beane trades more than any other GM in the game.

I think because he traded all his pitchers last winter I didn't notice he got Seth Smith (who has always been productive but it is like a top 20 hitter this season) for two pretty bad pitchers last off season.

The guy is pretty smart....

The problem is that defense was undervalued when Moneyball came out (or shortly therefater) and the market has more than caught up now (IMHO).  I think the bigger change has been that with the door close on steroid abuse, , temporarily at-least, a lot of teams are going back to young arms and young legs.  This really is nothing new.

WIS is similar to the big leagues in that to win generally an owner has to exploit inefficiencies, but in the case of WIS, the prices on players are not market prices, they are fixed.
