bad start Turnaround possible? Topic

I have a team started out 5-18 and its a high cap league with clones.  Not my strong suit and the record shows it.  Is there anything I can do that will maybe get this team to .500?   I've changed all the settings I can think of and it's not helping currently in a L9.   Any help is appreciated.

It's not that unusual.  I posted the following in the Believe It or Don't thread a while ago (notice my teams were all 13 below .500, just like yours):

Hot & Cold!  I have 3 teams now that all stumbled out of the gate, falling early to 13 games below .500:

1. Babe's Cavalcade of Stars (MLB100338) started 23-36 -- since then have gone 47-27 to improve to 70-63.
2. Manny Mota & Friends (MLB100555) started 10-23 -- since then have gone 25-9 to improve to 35-32
3. The La Marr Hoyt Pickers (MLB100451) started 20-33 -- since then have gone 19-28, still stink at 39-61.

2 out of 3 ain't bad!

No WW or trades.  You pretty much just have to hope they turn it around, assuming you have the proper lineup already and a reasonably well-configured pitching staff...

Did you just ride out the storm or make small changes to mangerial style and so to help them get there?

No WW moves or trades for any of the teams.  I tinkered with the lineups and settings.  The main problem with the first team was my best player, 1921 Ruth, stunk early, and he eventually came around.  The second team had great pitching, poor offense, so I increased the settings for hit and run, base running aggressiveness and base stealing for any players who were remotely capable of stealing bases; that seemed to help.  The third team stunk from start to finish, so never mind what I did there...

A progressive league team in 1923/73 - dual season league - just ended the season with a 14 game win streak to finish in second place, unfortunately three games out of the wildcard spot. But it was in last place 5 (RL) days ago.

Dalefan1, my guess is that your criteria for choosing players needs some work. We all learn from our mistakes. I make a point of looking at all the other teams in every league I am in. Often, managers employ strategies that would not have occurred to me, and beat me with that strategy. Look at this as a learning experience. try to figure out what you did wrong, and what the other guy did right. Make appropriate changes this year, and learn what not to do in the future. I pride myself on not making the same mistake twice, but I certainly do find new mistakes to make on a regular basis.

pfattkatt, i'm definitely not the best and I by far got beat in strategy in that league.   I think i know where I went wrong.  Other then it being a clone league and a high cap.  I hate both haha.  But like you said I will know what not to do from here on out.   Lookin to just salvage a decent record and not kill my chances in the WIS.  my other 5 teams are combined over .500  which isn't anything to brag about but it's great for me and gives me a chance if they make a run for round 2.
