who's a better SS? Topic

A guy rated D-/D- at SS - or a 2B rated C+/C-  ?

who (in theory) would be the better defensive SS?

Depends on the D-/D-.

This.

D- can mean a lot of things. It's a bottomless range.

False.  A+ is a topless range.  D- is not bottomless.  It ends at 0.

Doesn't A+ end at 1.000?

How about this:  while the ratings between A and D (inclusive) are relatively standard in 'size', A+ and D- encompass the extremes so there is a significant difference in performance (but not cost) within those two ratings.

Can't we all just get along?

realistically it'd be 27.00, but since the range they use here is an RF/G ratio rather than per inning, I guess it is conceivable that it could truly be topless since you never know how many innings a game might go, so a player might theoretically be able to make more than 27 outs per game. This, along with the fact that it shortchanges defensive replacements (David Dellucci and Reed Johnson, both come to mind as players whose RF/Inning were above league average, but their RF/G (and thus their WIS RRF and range rating) are below average) is why WIS should adopt the RF/Inning rather than the RF/G.

This.

Sorry about the semantic difficulties.

the players in question would be 1965 Pete Rose (rated 2B) or 1965 Dick Allen (d-/d- at SS)

Allen is .858/3.19. I'd take my chances with Rose.

If this is the SSSP team chargingryno, the best SS is Jim Davenport or else Andre Rodgers - both of whom I will gladly trade to you in exchange for Rose and Allen.

And here you accused me of not being a good friend for not trading you Lefty Gomez in 1931 from my first place team just so you could compete against me ! I hope this makes up for that in your mind.
