I see recruits from Covington (KY) Latin High School. In RL, they've probably NEVER had a recruit. It's an advanced school for gifted students. Most of them skip grades and graduate when they're 15 or 16. Needless to say, they're not competitive athletically. They were eliminated in last year's tournament, 91-41, to an 8-20 team.
Covington Latin's only had one famous athlete...Dave Justice (Atlanta Braves), the first husband of Halle Berry. But his athletic talent wasn't developed at Cov. Latin..they don't have a baseball team
A coaching friend in Iba used to recruit every player from his high school, regardless of their talent level. He said, "I can't help it. It's my high school!"
funny you mention it - ive had probably a full two dozen family members (first cousins or closer) graduate there (to non alblack people, they graduate maybe under 50 a year, so thats a lot, its not like some massive 2k enrollment public high - i think my cousins stats were like, 66 in their FR class, 36 in their senior class). if you are really familiar with the school, and know mr whitehead, my dad once cursed all males in my family line forever attending that school (he hated my dad from the beginning, or so he said, you can never truly know). but anyway, my dad's family fixed up houses and stuff, and he knocked on a door to borrow a tool or something one day, and to his surprise, mr whitehead answered. they got along so badly, so my dad looked him straight in the eye and said, YOU live in this dump?? yeah... that pretty much did it in for all my cousins, they all ***** about how mr whitehead hates them on last name alone. i think there was a member of my family in attendance there for like 20 years straight, so i mean, i was hearing them ***** about it for like, my entire life :) my dad was the youngest of 11 and was an uncle at 3.
i was lucky, my family moved away, or id have probably been in real bad shape - considering i also have the same FIRST name. and like you said, most of my cousins skipped 2 years, and like 1/3rd sklpped one year. a few years ago, i believe they actually changed it, you cant even not skip and still go there anymore! im not 100% positive on that but i am pretty sure thats what i was told. like i said, i didnt go there, but i had 2 best men in my wedding and they both went there, along with the other 20 or so family members previously mentioned...
