First time HD coach Topic

Hey, all first time here. Really was interested in this site a long time ago and now I've finally gotten around to seeing what coaching in a dynasty would be like. With the upcoming college basketball season, I figured why not try the Hoops Dynasty (Smith world).

Hopefully I don't embarrass myself to much this year and can work my way up to my alma mater after a years at the lower levels (its still available!).

Thanks

Hey man!

One quick peice of advice- get a mentor. Look around the forums or your conference and look for someone with a lot of experience and success to run ideas by and bounce players off of. Don't find someone like me, who thinks they know what they are talking about but their perpetual losing says otherwise-- find someone who is a perennial contender that built their own team and is willing to help you dive in.

Welcome!  Agree about the mentor 100%.  Also, on the first page of the forums there's a thread titled, "HD Reading List"  that is really helpful.  Probably the best link on there is "How to Win at D2 and D3" and it gives a great overview of how to be successful in this game.

Many new coaches don't spend money on FSS.  Don't be one of those people, it can be an invaluable tool.  Being at DIII, don't overspend, but use the service.

And, yes, get a mentor.  Keep reading the forums there is a lot of good information out there.

Do the opposite of me and you will be a national champion!

Definitely get future stars, recruit close to home, be sure that you get players that have decent athleticism and defense. Good luck!

I'd like to mentor someone.

Of course, I'm not a particularly good coach, either

If I were you, I'd let pjb mentor you.  He's just being modest, he's actually a really good coach.
