I knew taking over the Keuka team in Phelan would be a challenge for my first season playing the game. I knew it would take some rebuilding, but damn, 0-9 lol. Do I just need to suck it up, and realize that this is gonna be tough for a while, or am I doing something completly wrong?

box score from last game, which was the closest I've played someone in a while

Any input would be awesome, if you need any other links, let me know. Thanks guys.

The team definitely needs more talent, but you can't do anything about that until the offseason.  #1 thing I would change is your starting PG.  Brown is sub-30 in BH and Pass and just cannot play point.  You need to start Hollen at PG, because he's the only guy remotely capable of it.

Another thing I notice is you have too many people shooting 3s.  I would have Kent at 0 for 3pt setting, and Hollen and Velasquez at -1.  Everyone else at -2.  I would also play slowdown every single game, because depth is not your friend right now.  You might also consider running all-0s for your player distro for a few games to see if that helps anything.

I would try this lineup (granted I can't see potential, so I'm not considering long term at all here).

PG-Hollen, Velasquez
SG-Kent, Velasquez
SF-Brown, Romriell
PF-Lee, Dumond
C-Fontenot, Dubois

Thanks man! I was thinking Hollen at PG, but figured if I just tossed my Freshman in, it would help get them ready for next year.

Had everyone set at 0 for 3 pointers, and made your adjustments

Didnt think about the slowdown aspect, great idea.

Again, thanks for the help, we will see how she works.

That's a pretty big rebuild considering how young they are. That means it will take you longer too get new scholarships to refill. I don't know the potentials, but I would strongly consider cutting a couple of those guys Sim signed when the offseason starts. You won't get any money for them this year, but then you will have that many scholarships worth of money the next year. Or just suck it up for 2 seasons until they graduate. Either way, until you get some good recruits, that team will be bad. I'm not sure on their potentials, but I would highly recommend the post aejones had on how to win in this game. Also, get a good understanding on how potential works so you can judge what a player will look like in the future so you don't recruit scrubs. You can find all kinds of threads asking about potential in the forums.

I think you could get away with going +1 for Kent as a 3-pt setting...in my experience >70 Per at D3 is usually pretty efficient. If his percentage (he's only tried 18 so far, so not much sample size) gets up in the 35 percent neighborhood, I'd kick him up. His BH is in the low 40s, so I don't think you're sacrificing many "off the dribble" points/free throws by having him chuck up the deep ball.

That said, batman can coach circles around me, so listening to him won't steer you wrong ;)

Yeah I think he's probably worth trying at +1 to see how he does.  My rule of thumb on that is about 70 each or 210 total in Spd/Per/BH.  He's a little short in two of those, but Per is the most important of the three (just in terms of 3pt shooting).

Looks like the offense played a lot better in the last game, but 11/23 at the FT line didn't really help in a 2 point loss.

Ill give that a shot. Thanks guys.

I was deff happier with the offense, we will see where this goes.

cuse, this is an intricate game that rewards research and time spent with it. If you put in the time, you'll get good. My recommendation would be to get a few mentors. Things like gameplanning, recruiting, depth charts, redshirting, etc all take time to get good at. You did an admirable job by not taking over the best possible team you could get (I find a lot of coaches who stand on the shoulders of the previous coaches success, and never build anything themselves. To me, you're missing out on one of the best elements of this game).

Anyways, feel free to sitemail me if you have any specific questions. I'm not the best coach on here, but I've gone thru a bunch of learning pains that I can help you through.

kent went 4-10 from behind the arc, 16 points. Velasquez went 3-6 with 10 points. I have Brown starting at SG, 0 points, 2 TOs and 4 fouls. Should I start Velasquez at SG?

be careful about getting too excited when a guy on the bench scores. Keep in mind, he may be playing against bench players as well who of course are not as good as the starter.
