50% of zero is zero. (and 50% of almost zero is almost zero)

We need about 2000*% more firings.

It used to be possible to compete from the mid majors.  I'm not sure it is any more.  There just doesn't seem to be many good recruits that fall through the cracks any more.
Rupp C-USA has earned over $300,000 recruiting cash for something like 6 of the last 7 seasons.
They have put 9-12 teams in the post-season most of those seasons.
There are only about 2-3 teams above a B+ in prestige.
They have been either #1 or #2 in Conference RPI for probably 6 of those 7 seasons.
They have had multiple Final 4 teams and a couple seasons back Marshall won the NT Championship.

These facts prove Mid Majors can compete.
They also prove you don't have to have half of the conference be A+ prestige schools to be competetive.

You do need a full conference of comitted coaches who have some sort of a clue on how to recruit and play with the big-boyz.

The game is not broken. It just takes a little luck, some skill, and alot of effort.

Very well said. Although I agree that we need more firings (a LOT more) and more lenient hiring logic.

this issue isn't when the CUSA, A-10, or Mountain West fills up with good coaches and tries to compete. We know that part is possible.

the issue is when Joe Solo is in a mid-major conference with like 4 other humans, like you said. How does "needing a full conference of humans" not equal broken?

and see I would disagree. I believe it's working much like it was intended, and pretty close to how I would want it to work.
I don't want knocked out of the NT by 12 teams playing with themselves in empty conferences and beating 26 sims a season.

I would agree firings need to be increased.
And I wouldn't have any problem with it being tied loosly to baseline prestige.
Those given the most advantage could be held to a slightly higher standard.

I'm pretty much opposed to looser restrictions to land an elite job.
I don't think 6-8 seasons of HD is a resume for coaching UCLA, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke or Carolina.... no matter how many sims you beat on the way.

That said, there are some wierd bugs that DO absolutely need fixed in the hiring logic. Forgeting to renew your seasons.... trying to re-apply for the job you just left and had coached for 10 seasons and not being qualified is a screw up that needs fixed.
again, I think the hiring logic is messed up... but having to build a decent resume to land an elite job is not a part of it... (IMHO) of course.

Building a decent reume is one thing, but I am a B prestige in the big ten with a two NT appearances, one trip to the 2nd round and I don't qualify for Maine (not that I am looking to leave, just making a point).  This year we have an opening at an A prestige in the pac 10 and I have two friends who are B+ prestiges in a major conference and they don't qualify.  That is just ridiculous.   I was a B prestige in the colonial and the only way I got a Big ten job was because the team was a C- with a 6-21 record.  Interesting how in real life the Florida Gulf Coast coach has one miracle season and gets a job in the Pac12.  Not saying we should make it that easy, but if we don't give mid major and lower conf coaches the ability to translate their success to better jobs we will end up the way it is now, full top cinferences and hardly any other coaches in the lower conferences.  In IBA our total coach population went down by 6 this season, 2 of them went back to DIII and a couple back to DII.  If that does not sound like a problem in D1 you will have to explain to me why not.
