If you win both of those categories, by definition you win the game. If you split them, whoever won their game advantage by more will win. He soundly beat you in opportunity (get more chances to score) while you soundly beat him in efficiency (points per chance to score). And your "efficiency" was so-to-speak 2 points better than his "opportunity." Makes sense?

By that logic, a team that shoots 1/1 would be more desirable than a team that shoots 19/20, which I assume everyone would agree is not the case. In your example, at the end of the day one team gets 20 points from FT's and the other gets 10. Give me 20/40 any day over 10/15, and thats not even getting into offensive rebound opportunities either.
