Hey coaches,
I coach at D2 Anchorage in Naismith and I've always wondered how much (if at all) height affects a player's performance. I'm curious for 2 reasons:
1. I have a promising SF who is 5'11". I'm almost thinking about making him a 2 guard, but if height really doesn't matter (as I've been led to believe since I started coaching), he will be a beast SF by his sr. year.
2. There is a player in my conference averaging over 2 blocks per game, yet his ath, def, and blocking attributes are nothing to write home about. However, this player is a 6'10" SF, so he's clearly matching up against shorter players at the SF position.

Do you guys think height affects anything? Or do you know of any studies that other coaches have done? Thanks for the input

height and weight are  just window dressing.  they do not affect gameplay in any way.

Heigh only counts in two states, Hawaii and Alaska.

hmmmm

matty,   i only see 2 sfs on your roster and they are both 6'3"
abd i dont see anyone 5'11"

maybe youre talking about your 5'10" sg?

not sure why your confmates sf is getting so many blocks,,,,  but its nothing to do with his height... not even in alaska  ;-)

yeah sorry olddave, he's 5'10" and he's listed as a SG, but attributes are more suited for a SF on my team. thanks for checking though. and yes, I'm not sure what the hawaii and alaska joke is all about :)

Is that player even actually playing small forward ... Or is he just listed as a small forward?

For that matter, could you link to 'that player'. The unimpressive one with the blocks.

i think he means this guy...  ''James Smith  Southern new hamp     6'10" sf.   44ath   46blk
but im only seeing him at 1.3 blocks per game.
maybe conference only stats its higher?  still   1.3 seems pretty high for that skill set.
oh,  yeah,  it does look like he plays PF (sim coach)    zone defense

So size doesn't matter?

Nope. Size is factored into ratings already. Its actually kind of cool sometimes players will grow an inch during the offseason and their rebounding will go up a couple points.

I've never noticed this, that's actually pretty neat.

I had a PF that started at 6'7" and grew to  6'10" by his senior year. I thought his rebounding was low-high but he ended up improving by about 35 points.

I'm pretty sure the tallest player in the starting lineup will be the player that lines up for the jump ball. So, um, that's something
