Guys, quit pulling Etta's chain, please.  Etta has discovered the truth about the simulator, and you're just wasting time arguing with him about it.  Etta, you're dancing around the edges of the real issue, and you seem a delightful fellow, so I'll let you in on the secret that only the vets (and guys like me who were let-in by the vets) know:
 

The Sim was programmed to be anti-Etta.  There's some hidden code in there that will always make your games go south, so that you lose, because the ever-so-attentive WiS staff has made it their #1 goal to take time away from coding, upgrading the site, and fixing much lesser problems (such as D1 hiring and firing) to make sure that your team loses in frustrating ways.

I'm sorry, that's just the truth.  There's really nothing that can be done for you.  You're probably better off taking your leave of the site when your oh-so-talented-and-well-coached-but-cursed team's season ends, and switching over to the much, much better Internet college basketball franchise simulating website.

I mean this with all due respect but every time you characterize the engine as flawed you come across as a stubborn ***. People want to help you but you are so arrogant. You do understand that if the engine worked exactly the way you want it too it wouldn't be right for the vast majority of people. The engine can perform the way you want it to but you refuse to accept the engine for what it is, but that does not make it flawed. This is really the last time I'm going to post. You're not stupid but completely unable and unwilling to try to adapt which really a waste of everybody's time. It's a shame

What I'm trying to do is learn how to best coach my team within the confines of realism.
That's a great notion, but it just isn't going to help you get good at the game.  If you want to get good at the game, you need to learn how to be the best coach of your team within the confines of the game.
And the other thing I'm not going to do is get in a habit of settling for mediocre, in any part of life.
If you want to rise above HD mediocrity, you'll need to accept how the game works and adapt to it.  They're not going to change it to suit your preferences.

It's a real stretch to call this a part of life. If it is, it's the part of life that I'm allowed to care about a lot less than any other part.

Why, because I see its flaws and call them out? What is arrogant about that?  I know how basketball works and so I feel pretty comfortable saying where the sim is flawed and where it could be better.
Calling everything that doesn't match your *opinion* of how things should work a "flaw" comes across as extremely arrogant, and frankly no one really gives a **** except you.

considering that its you who said you won't settle for mediocrity in any part of life, are you now arguing with yourself? you call it a part of life, now say its a real stretch to call it a part of life? and if it is a part you are allowed to care much less about, isn't that then the best candidate for a part to set your bar a bit lower in, given that you care less?

You're completely new to the game.  You're an HD noob.  This is a fact.  A non-arrogant noob would not be "comfortable saying where the sim is flawed and where it could be better."  That is what an arrogant person would say.

Yeah except my "opinions" are informed by what actually happens in the sport. 

I definitely believe no one gives a **** or else such obvious flaws would have been forced to be addressed by now.

You need to get your head around this central point:

This is not a recreation of Basketball: The Sport.  This is a sim game based on the stuff that goes into running a college basketball program.

Otherwise you will never, ever enjoy the game.

Cool. I look forward to using the "suck up to AAU coach", "spin some BS to the media", and "get the boosters to front Junior a car, but don't *really* get them to do it" features. 

And the D3 version, "call your alumni and beg them to send you prospect contacts", "beg for money", and the always popular "call the office of admissions and tell them we really need this kid even though he got an ACT of 9". That one tends to work better at Ferrum than Johns Hopkins.

I didn't say it encompasses every single activity.  You're just going extreme now and missing the point.  The game is what it is, and they're not going to change it to suit your preferences.
