Yeah I've seen it before. I remember the funny thing being that the coach wasn't even COY. Pretty cool though, nice job.

pumphead in Phelan Wiac.......d3 would routinely have 7+ players on the all conference teams....plus a few honorable mentions.....then get screwed out of coach of the year awards....

Lol, how is that even possible? The conference awards logic is definitely screwed up. I remember when I was in D3 constantly seeing guys make 1st team all-conference over a conference mate, and then the conference mate being named All-American while the 1st team AC guy wouldn't even be honorable mention.

That, plus defending National Champs.

Maine's NT set up a major run for mid-majors in Allen, after season 29 (Maine over Weber St in the championship game); Utah lost the NT game in season 31, UNLV lost the NT game in season 32, Morris Brown lost the NT game in season 33, UNLV won the NT in season 34, and was followed as National Champs by Boston University, Cleveland State and Yale.  Southern then won the NT in season 40.

Since then (seasons 41-68) the national champ came from either the ACC or Big-12, and the runner up came from those 2 conferences in all but 6 of those seasons.

i think part (but not all) of that phenomenon stems from conf awards only considering conf stats, while national awards consider the whole season.

Very cool, I appreciate the history lesson. Never had a team in Allen.

That's pretty crazy that for 28 straight seasons only 2 conferences have won a title.

I've also always figured that it had to do with (in this example) the 1st teamer being on a team that went say 11-5 in a not so tough conference and something like 18-8, with a 50ish RPI and never being ranked, while the conference mate is on a ranked team.

Adding to my last post. It looks like the impact of team success has been toned down a bunch for All-American awards. For D1 the AA teams are filled with mid major players that weren't even on great teams.
