I run a zone at D3 and one of the reasons I like it is because of the recruiting flexibility. I only need 10 scholarship players so I recently started taking one or two walkons every season. That means I get recruiting money based on, say, 5 scholarships and I can focus that money on only 3 recruits. This cycle repeats each year so I always have bonus recruiting money. At D3 where the recruiting budget is so limited, I find this makes a noticeable difference.

I used to do 11 players. 3-3-3-2. I think I'm gonna move to 3-2-3-2. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get an 11th and now have redshirt flexibility. I've always gone defense heavy and play slow down. Having a short bench (really don't like playing freshman much because of low IQ), this keeps me in games. I've always ran M2M. I like being able to move guards and bigs around if i see a matchup advantage. I think I only remember once where the other team did the same and putting my better defending C on their PF, became the C guarding the C anyway after they switched. We still won that game to my recollection. My guards dominated them.
