Curious Q for the Vets....specifically at D1......How much time do you put into practicing your offense and defense? Do you put a lot hoping high IQ's lead to stellar defensive/offensive play? Or do you put your time into player development and hoping to develop studs who will produce more than create/allow turnovers?

Thanks in advance,

i put at least 20 into the offense and at least 20 into the defense.

I often will push that up to 25 each, but rarely more.

as your team has more and more guys who max out on their potential one can shift minutes to IQ

I do it exactly the same as fd343ny .. 20/20 minimum sometimes more if I have a team that has maxed out potential or if I want to shift to another offense or defense after taking over a new team.

I typically go 22 for offense and 22 for defense.

I've always done 20/20 myself - just curious if anyone did anything more or less.

Thanks.

I am a player development first guy. I want my player ratings maxed out. I go 18/18. That usually gets my guys maxed out for their senor year. It is my experience that IQ is somewhat overrated. More on offense than "D". A player who is a "B" IQ will not hurt your "O" or "D". There is virtually no difference in game results from  an "A" to an "A+" At 18/18, my players max out in ratings and normally get to at least  an "A". At top level  D1 would you rather have an EE that you got the maximum out of his skills for your program or be highly rated in your IO's?

Practice?
We talking 'bout practice!?!?

I like to monitor IQs closely in season, and tweak the "20/20" model to sometimes be as imbalanced as "25/15", if I have more guys lacking in offensive IQ, or vice-versa if they lack in defensive IQ.

Depends on the team.
If they're young and have a long way to max their categories, I tend to practice less... (20/20)
If I have a bunch of studs near maxed individually, I go up to 28/28. This is extreme and wouldn't recommend for most teams, but when I'm mostly maxed, that is what will make the difference.

Know your team. And go typically between 20-25 with rare exceptions (all freshmen w potential might require 15 at first)
