Is there a limit to the number of freshman a team can sign? I have a new team with 11 openings and I seem to remember seeing an e-mail stating a maximum of 6 players can be signed at a certain level (fresh, soph, etc.) per season.

Yes, you can only sign 6 freshman. You can sign juco's and transfers for your other 5 spots. Taking walk-ons would be okay also because that will give extra recruiting money for next season since you will have another scholarship.

Thanks. I'll take the 5 walk-ons for next season.

Also, if you had a redshirt, he will count towards your 6-freshmen limit next season

Not a bad idea to take on 5 walk-ons. DIII recruiting is all about having available funds and finding players with high potentials so as long as you're not handing out schollies to crap players just to fill out your roster, you're doing yourself a service in the long run.

I would advise not to sign 6 players, just because you can. You could use the extra recruiting money to sign 3-4 really good players and take this time to even out your classes.

I'd recommend trying to get as many 1 year eligible players as I could to fill those 5 walk-on spots. You'll still get the money next year when they graduate, but it you could get 2 guys it would probably help win a few games this season.

Yeah, also don't pass up good JUCO players if you can find them. If you wait to after signing, you can usually get a decent transfer player or two as well. While taking 5 walkons isn't the end of the world, I wouldn't purposely try to do it. If you can find good JUCO and transfers I wouldn't pass them up on purpose.

This. They can be very helpful for evening out classes and can keep you competitive in transition seasons like these where you want to avoid bombing your prestige.
