Min requirement IQ for starters? Topic

I would like to see what is the minimum you would switch over to a new off/def, I am currently planning on switching once I get the majority of my team to B+ with my younger players at a B/B- rating, is that going to have a huge disadvantage for me?  Is there any other effects of switching off/def during the season besides IQ, like chemistry, or is it just based on IQ?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, playing the same O/D that you practice improves IQ's at a faster rate than just practicing them and playing a different O/D.  You may just want to suck it up and play your new O/D now so that you can get quicker results.

Really, okay, I've been putting 25 in my offense and 50 into my defense, so it's already increasing rapidly.  Thanks

You're right, but the extra improvement is so small I would consider it negligible.  When switching O/D, I just play the old set(s) for most of the first season to maybe pick up an extra win or two.  Then when the players are in the C range I switch over.

50 is way too many minutes to be practicing defense.  Anything over 25 minutes and you start to get diminished returns.  This means that you're not getting as much improvement from your practice minute as you could be.

Playing this game at a high level is all about maximizing efficiency.  You need to get the most out of every practice minute and every recruiting dollar that you can possibly get.

On a related note, whenever I take over a team formerly coached by a human, I'm amazed at how many practice minutes are being wasted in Study Hall.  Some coaches put 8+ minutes into SH for all their players.  Don't be that guy.  It is uncommon for me to have even 1 minute of study hall for upperclassmen, and most of the time freshman can get by with <5 minutes.  For a little extra boost, I always remove all study hall minutes for all players after the second term grades come out late in the season.

Really? my logic was going off this chart:

My logic was the more minutes spent the quicker it would go up, is there actually diminished returns as I've been putting 50 for about a week and my players have gone from F/D- to B-/C+ in about 16 practices, which looking at the chart for slow learners(numbers on the right) it would be about correct, as its around 800 minutes to go from F -> B- and 800/50=16 which is the number of practices, I've gone at 50 minutes, so if there is diminished returns, they don't seem to make a enormous negative impact, is it confirmed there is diminished returns?

  • Iguana1's BBIQ Practice Minute Chart: These are the ranges
I've found based on the 4 seasons since the iq grading has
    changed.
The number on the left assumes a "fast" learner.  WE of 80 and
GPA over 3.2.  The number on the right is for a slower learner.
WE around 40, GPA under 2.5.
Of course there are extreme cases on both ends.  I had a player
with a WE of 11 that took about 20% longer than the second
    number.

    • F   > D-      50-75
      D- > D       50-75
      D   > D+    50-75
      D+ > C-     50-75     total F  > C-    200-300

    • C- > C     100-150
      C  > C+   100-150
      C+ > B-   120-200    total  C- > B-  320-500    total  F  > B-   520-800

    • B- > B     290-400
      B  > B+   290-400    total  B- > B+  580-800    total  F  > B+   1100-1600

    • B+ > A-   375-500
      A- > A     575-775
      A  > A+   450-625    total  B+ > A+  1400-1900  total  F  > A+   2500-3500

Study hall I have my upper classmen with under 3.0 gpa at 2 minutes, over 3.0 at 1 minutes, underclassmen under 3.0 at 4 and over 3.0 3 minutes, which I believe is a good amount??

As of now I have kept my offense at 25, put my def down at 25 and added Press(originall defense at 15) as I might run a half court press if that is a good idea or not.

Does anyone know how the minutes diminish? If you put in 50 minutes like theOnlyis, what percent gets lost? Does 50 minutes still get you at least 40 minutes worth?

I agree with this.

And this.

FWIW, and I see this mistake all the time when I take over a new team, leaving minutes in study hall after the final grades come out is simply a waste of those minutes.  Grades are over for the year, if your guy passed, he passed.  It's not like he's all of a sudden going to get "another" set of grades between the second semester final grades and the conference tournament.  Move those minutes to individual practice and at least get a little use out of them, just as Clouseb said.  Just common sense.
