Changing Defenses? Topic

Newbie question.

My team's IQ is quite a bit higher with man-to-man defense than with zone defense.

Man-to-Man

PG: B
SG: B+
SF: B+
PF: B+
C:  B

Zone

PG: D-
SG: D-
SF: D-
PF: C
C:  C-

My next game is against a team who can't shoot from the perimeter. The team who beat them in the first game played a 2-3 zone, forcing them to shoot 5-24 from 3. Should I stay with man-to-man because I know it so well (and maybe play -1 or -2 positioning to take away inside) or switch to the zone because it'll be more effective against this one team?

Thanks.

Stick with what you know. With the zone IQs, you could also get guys in foul trouble. Take away the inside with a man-to-man defense. Double their top big guy if you are afraid of him.

Sounds good. Thanks, Jay.

YEah, that difference in IQ isn't worth it....if it was C->B it might be worth it in some cases.

You guys switch D based on opponents?

Pallas, it looks like you're splitting your practice time into two offenses and two defenses. That's a mistake; you should really be focusing on one offense and defense.
