Am I missing something obvious? Topic

In my CT in Phelan today, I had a rematch against a team I lost to by 4 in a game that was pretty close.

I made a couple of mild tweaks to my gameplan, then my starting C got in quick foul trouble and all of a sudden I'm down 39-10 in the first half and I lose by almost 50. Somehow my third-string PG ended up on the court enough to have six turnovers.

I can certainly understand losing to this team, I'm trying to figure out how it turned into a total bloodbath when these teams are similarly talented.

looks like a rough sim if the 1st contest you lost by 4, sometimes it happens. The only obvious thing I see is your offense never got going and your defense certainly didn't stop anything let alone you fouled more. So he butchered you with 51% from the field then shot 8 more FT's because of the fouls. then you shot barely over 30%. You had a rough game, lumps will come with this game.

I follow some of the D1 conferences to see what they talk about and you'd be surprised how heated those guys get when the engine screws them out of obvious conference matchup's or wins. You really had no say in the way that game was going to go. I'd be surprised if any team won a game shooting barely 30% and lettiing the other team shoot over 50%. Not really your fault, just a bad sim.

Thanks - just seems like a bad sim would take a 10-point game and make it 20, not take a competitive matchup and make it a 30-point game in the first half. I didn't think their press should be so good that I just couldn't even get into my offense, I have two veteran ballhandlers that I thought were pretty good.

are you using target minutes or fatigue? why are your starters playing so few minutes?

IMHO you should at lest set your starters (if not all players) to leave in longer on foul settings. Its a fluke for your center to pick up 2 fouls so quick like that. If he was set on leave in longer he would have stayed in or only missed a couple minutes. If he ends up fouling out with another silly foul or 3 who cares - if he sits on the damn bench for 2/3 of the game with 5 fouls or 3 what difference does it make - you have little control over when he gets subbed back in, so while the aggressive approach might mean the player is more likely to be unavailable in the final couple minutes perhaps it might not matter if you are already down 40 by then...

without having any direct knowledge of your lineup and depth chart settings I'm guessing it could be improved.

I do think the sim worked against you and a loss might well have been inevitable, but it seems like roster management issues might also be hurting you.

Well, the second halves of the two games are rather similar, it seems that the difference, if it is to be decoded, lies in the first half.

Even on "Leave in longer", a player who picks up two quick fouls will go out immediately and won't reenter the game until the first stoppage after about seven minutes remaining in the half.

I'm on fatigue - I'm guessing the starters' minutes were so low because it was such a blowout. Fry and William Oliver were in the top 5 in my conference in minutes per game this season, I think this was a one-game blip for minutes played. I do have the sub in blowouts boxes checked, hard to argue that 39-10 in the first half doesn't qualify on that front.

I still have everybody on normal at this point for foul trouble - like Llama said, though, the game was over by the time he would have come back in on normal.

One thing I've definitely learned while reading on here - I need to redshirt players more often. I really wish I'd redshirted William Oliver as a freshman instead of burning a year of eligibility for less than a hundred minutes total. Lesson learned, I won't be making that mistake again going forward.
