I just lost a prospect to a a+ D3 team. I am also an A+ and spent 5 home visits and 20 scouting trips. The recruit is 70 miles from my campus. Anyone ever seen something like this? I spent more than the d3 coach had in available budget.

It has to do with how you are spending your money.  Scouting trips hold much less value than home visits.  It's roughly 1 HV = 3 STs.  At 70 miles, you probably spent around $1600 in HV and $3400 in STs, for a rough total of $5K.  If the other school was a comparable distance, they could have won the battle for roughly $3700 (12 HVS).

Wait, are you D2?  Those 20 ST are equal to about 7 HV's....if the other guy was close, 13ish HV's isn't that big a deal at D3.

Your own fault for not using your money as efficiently as you could be.  No reason to be using scouting trips at that distance, unless you are actually scouting the players high's.  Stick with HV's under 360 miles

Also, read aejones' guide "How to Win at D2 and D3", it will make you a very good coach if you execute what he says. Seriously, do it.
