Forum/Community Leaderboard/Awards Topic

Don't know if this would interest anyone, but since the most wins no champ thread was decent, I was thinking of something a bit similar.  A forums "leaderboard" basically a vote on who are the top coaches at each level or at certain things, it could be updated every few months, and would be interesting to see.

I would just set up polls for voting or it could be done similar to nba awards where you give something like 5 points for 1st 3 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd, etc and we see how that adds up, and people can also add their names to the list to be considered or add someone else they think deserves to be on the list.

If this interests people I would love to do it, and keep it updated every few months.

Some "awards I was thinking of:

Best D1 Coach Overall
Best D2 Coach Overall
Best D3 Coach Overall

as the 3 main categories as well as possibly adding in some things like:

Best overall coach of all 3 divisions.
Best D1 mid-major coach
Best coach at geographically isolated schools overall or by division.
Best upcomer, either overall or by division

or any other things people were thinking of.

Sort of another thing but also wanted to throw this out there is maybe instead of awards do a tier ranking and create a certain number of tiers and vote coaches into tiers, reevaluating every few months as well to see who moves up/drops or gets added to the list, for D1, D2, and 3.

If there is continued support, I will start gather some names to throw around.  If people have names they think deserve to be considered send me a sitemail of the ID and what division.

I think for now I will just do, Best D1, Best D1 mid-major, Best D2, and Best D3 coaches.  If it works and gets increased interest I will add more.\

I can start posting polls soon too, I'm seeing if there is a way where I can get it to allow people 3 votes each worth a different amount so basically a 1st 2nd and 3rd place vote, similar to how nba awards are chosen.  Otherwise it would just be forum poll and we do first through third based off percentages.

Best hiring of a conference commissioner:

The Crum Div-2 Northeast-10 hired Charlize Theron ("Italian Job", etc) to a 5-year contract. That expired after Season 75, and she plans on taking the same position in the Crum Div-1 Patriot League. Great job of getting endorsements, including Table Talk Pies, Polska Kielbasa, and Nissen Bread. She also put our CT in the Boston Garden. Consulted with William Shatner quite a bit. For more details, ask ppk, duke137, therewas and mambrose... it was a collaborative effort.

dang that Georgia Tech team is insane.

If people would like to keep nominating, that would be awesome, I'm currently on the D3 list which I have about 15 candidates, I might trim down.  And maybe cap each award to 10? coaches?.

If anyone also has good ideas on how this can be done, that would be cool too, I'm just trying to organize it.  Hopeflly we can make this a really fun thing to do.

IMO it would be interesting to also look at angles like "best d1 recruiter", "best d2/d3 recruiter", "best zone coach", "best coaching coach". maybe even "best game planner" but its fairly hard to separate out the aspects of the coaching side (team planning, team setup, game planning) - although it could be interesting to try.

I was thinking of doing Best recruiters, best coaches for zone or fastbreak, best isolated recruiter as well if the original awards do well in the forums

can we do one for best half-unintelligible, wasted forum poster - then I at least have a shot, though I'll still probably lose to gill...

i think it will be really interesting to see how the votes go and the opinions on the two, the only other coach with as dominant as a recent stretch in D3 is pepwaves.  Another thing tarv and pep too. has is that he seems like one of the few and one of the best overall hd players, he doesnt have a lot of big six D1 exp, but he dominates d3, great track record d2, and some amazing midmajor d1 schools.  Idk about jsajsa as ive never seen him above d3, but it would be interesting to see how he would do at the higher divisions.

Anavrin is dominant. Worldofnoah is dominant. Ggallagh is dominant. Dgravs is dominant. There are a lot of solid DIII coaches. Just check around. Mfnmyers is dominant. I am probably forgetting a lot of names, You need to come up with a top 10. And a voting of 20 or so coaches. Aejones. I forgot about him. Not sure if he is better in DII.

i have an excel spreadsheet of names, currently at 15 coaches i think that people would consider voting for at d3, about 10 for d2 and 10 for d1 but its harder to come up witb a list with lacking knowledge on those divisions

In D2, I have Azamat, Poke_man (he went to D1), Trophaeum, Rogelio, Aejones, Emy, Bcnopolis, Carlbuzz, Oldresorter, ARomano, Cjwolf, and so on. Brianxavier, maybe.

There are a lot of solid coaches.
