Ugh, excited to recruit this kid all season in my own backyard... ends up considering a A- sim and I'm ******. After almost $3000 I send a guaranteed start and get

Did he reject the start, or accepted it and you got that message?  Because I believe recruits don't accept starts if you are behind in the battle. Although it's possible that's just minutes.  If he rejected it, don't get discouraged from that message alone.  You just need to get the battle closer to make the start acceptable.

It's also definitely possible you are just beat and should stop recruiting, I don't have all the details.  And if the WOTS says he's tight with the sim, at DIII, you need to move on.

Kept rejecting minutes and then rejected the start with that message. I sent the start after he finally started considering me.

I should've gave up a while ago, figured the guy would be a cheap "lock" being in my own city. Still learning, growing pains.

I'm in the same situation. Jerk keeps rejecting my guaranteed start. Even got the same skillz message.

I got him to consider me along with the sim 1 cycle ago and then sent two HVs and a start but he still rejected it again. Wots says hes struggling between the two of us. Should I keep going for it? Signings are tonight so I got two more cycles. Maybe try 2 more HVs and the start + min? Any thoughts on my chances?

The school listed first in the "struggling between ____ and _____" is winning.

This doesn't entirely answer your question and I probably can't answer your question anyway without much more detail, but you may find this useful. I played this game a long time before I learned that.

I'm pretty sure he'll accept the start once the battle gets close enough.  If the WOTS is "struggling between..." then you're probably just a couple HVs away from taking the lead.

I sent two more HVs and he accepted the start. Had to do about 10 HVs to get it done though. Not sure if that's a lot or not...

My guy now says Our sources believe that he's struggling between Drew and Marywood.

Don't have anymore money to put into the guy. Hopefully he signs.

he's gonna sign, but unfortunately it looks like he is going to sign with Drew.  I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, whichever school is listed first is in the lead.  Crazy things have happened before though.  Good luck

I thought the order of the list was random, especially if the two are close.

Could be that the scholarship message was sent AFTER the FSS message was generated.

I believe it is random because he just signed! WOW I'm ecstatic!!!!
