Hello everyone,

Any knowledgable/experienced coaches that can give me feedback on this team, I would really appreciate. I've hit a wall and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. Talent wise, I seem to consistently have enough but have a hard time achieving with it. I know my guards need more speed in this system but aside from that, any suggestions to get to the next level? https://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=12661

You are running press with low staminas, and you only have one player with a good BH/PA. 17 turnovers a game is extremely high, and is a result of a poor team build.

Actually you need more ath to run a press. Your stamina is fine for DIII. 78 total rating. Flex you need per. You didn't shoot enough 3s and reb killed you. Should of played more - to compensate. You have per players but didn't shoot enough. Def ratings are a little low. Wow, Patton should of been scoring 20 ppg. Looks like you need help on distro. You should of played more uptempo

spd is more important in the press..... you can build a great press team with elite spd and average ath/def

3 responses, 3 different ideas.  I actually think that team is fine, maybe not championship caliber but will easily make the NT.  Those 3 losses are to very good teams.  I think your overall depth this season will prevent a deep run though.  If anything that sticks out, I'd agree with terps about the rebounding aspect that is lacking

Thanks guys. I knew speed was a problem. I appreciate all the suggestions. Terps, Patton was actually on my last Piedmont team. Even though he was 90+ PER, he simply could not shoot. No matter the distros. It was a very frustrating team. Those senior guards should've been better but they were terrible and it torpedoed the season. My first losing season for a team I've recruitied in a very very long time.

And if you have any suggestions on the distros for my cal tech team, I'm all ears. Thanks!

Just curious here.  How is it that you can give this much specific help, with this sense of certainty, when you yourself are constantly starting threads asking for help and/or advice?  I'm not trying to be an ***, just wondering if you've been sandbagging with those other threads.  If so, well played.  If not, I guess buyer beware.

Because I never take my own advice. I think way to much and always second guess myself. When helping other people I go with what others taught me and the best for them to win.  It's just my 2 cents. Always seems to help others, but can't put it in perspective for me. Plus asking questions is always a good thing.

I see.  I get where you're coming from I suppose, was just curious that's all.  No worries!

Not to pile on, but also couldn't help but notice the irony that terps likely refuted the advice of a very successful HD vet who he likely has learned something from and (by his own admission) offered advice gleaned from other HDers. I'm not criticizing you terps; I just think you could benefit from considering your audience a little more. Kbc has been a pretty successful coach (a pair of recent Final Four appearances with that very Cali Tech team). I don't think such basic advice as changing tempo, positioning, and shooting more threes could really help him.

If I were to offer any advice kbc, it would be to alter your recruiting strategy. It looks to me like you have a team full of tweeners (read: positionless). Tweeners can be very helpful in moderation, but when you have too many your left with a rather talented team that doesn't fit together. Put another way, your guards don't have enough guard skills and your bigs don't have enough big skills. So I would start disregarding spd/per/bh/pas in your bigs and focus in on those a little more in your guards. Take a look at the guards on my Averett team (average speed potential cap is nearly 90). I may have gotten a little guard-happy in recruiting, but it's better than the alternative, especially in the press.

Woa, stop right there. There was no irony in anything I said and NEVER refuted kb or anyones advice. All I said is 78 ST rating is good and if that if refuting stine than you took it the wrong way. Also I never checked kb history, I was making an observation on his piedmont team. If I can't make an observation to a real good coach than I'll shut the **** up and let you smarter coaches answer. Last time I checked I lived in America. But I see how it is, you can't ask questions than try to give advice to an experienced coach. So much for trying to grasp this game. Peace out, you won't hear from me. The coaches that gjve me advice I'll just sitemail.

I should have known that would be the reaction. My bad terps that was really a tactless response on my part. I was thrown a bit off because I thought you were criticizing kbc's basic gameplanning ability when that clearly was not the case.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the advice. Trail, I think I will definetly take what you've said to heart. I do think your explanation makes sense. I routinely have highly talented teams that don't achieve much. It must be the recruiting and fit of the teams. Thanks all!

Thank you. I don't criticize anyone except etta. Just a observation not knowing his success. No hard feelings
