What does it take to get to D1 Topic

So for my team in knight I went from D3 to D2 after 1 first round exit in the NT which I thought was weird, but I did have a better team than a first round exit. Then I went to D2 and have had two more first round exits (I'm a master at those, I'm 0-4 in the NT on this account). My two seasons at D2 I've had a 44 and 45 RPI. So I'm wondering what the criteria is to get the worst D1 team, is it like a second round NT, is it like a RPI thing, do I have to win a conference championship. I will have a A+ reputation and probably a A loyalty after next season, what would you think the bare minimum would be for me to get a D1 job.

It's pretty much all rep/loyalty and then NT bids/success.

You need A+ rep and A- or better loyalty.  I believe 4 seasons is generally the minimum to get there with multiple NT bids(going farther will just help the prestige of the programs you can apply to)

You should be able to recruit teams of 50+ ath/spd at D2/D3 before thinking of moving to D1 though and see how you're players do at D2 and not just the recruits of the previous coach to gauge talent level before making a big decision to jump to D1.  D1 is really tough and can be very discouraging at the low levels.

Is that 4 seasons total or 4 seasons T D2. I think the recruits that I have brought in are solid and I plan to play out with them and see what they can do.

D1 is not easy to get to by any means, some people say its too hard. I'll just warn you after you qualify for D1 its an entirly harder track to get qualified for a BCS school, If you get 4 seasons of NT appearences in a row, you will qualify for a D1 spot, sometimes you need a 5th season but that will get you there... Sometimes it can take 6-8 seasons to make a BCS school once your in D1 unless you find instant success.

4 seasons of D2 at least.

Three NT's in Div-2 (took me 6 seasons) got me qualified for around 20 D- prestige Div-1 teams in weak conferences.
In each of those 3 NT's in Div-2, my RPI was in the 60's, and I was 0-3 in NT games.
This was around 5 Crum seasons ago.

I qualified for DI after only 3 seasons of DII in Allen.  I made the sweet 16 in all 3 seasons.  (I'm still in DII, but I was qualified)

Basically, you need to have success.  And if you can't win NT games in DII, you are going nowhere in DI.  I've tried a few times in different worlds, and got frustrated at low DI.

There's no reason to be in a hurry.

Yeah be patient and enjoy the team you will build at D1. It seems once you reach D1, work starts. It's a completly different game.
