Importance of IQ for m2m defense? Topic

I would think individual skills (Athl, Spd, Def, Shot Bloc, and FW) would be all that count in a defense that is not requiring near as much unit cohesion as zone or press defenses or the combinations of these two.

What am I missing? And how much of a boost is there over applying more to development of the individual skill sets than to defensive IQ in M2M?

It's important, it's used in the fouling decision making event....probably less important than press but more than zone....not exactly sure what you're asking

Well I am not sure either what I am asking...is it simply a tendency to foul more with lower IQ even though has high individual skills?

as it relates to this game... i have never heard it suggested that IQ is less important in m2m.

the only semi-related thing i can think of happened in something like season 10 of iba,
so very likely is totally irrelevant but ill tell it anyway:
there was a team that i think won the national championship or at least did very very well,
they played zone despite mostly F IQ in zone.
i havent heard any story of low IQ teams doing really well in a long time.  (but i could be wrong about that)

as for real life,  i think in a well played m2m defense there is every bit as much team interaction in m2m as there is in other defenses.

Yea I guess that also is what I am wondering about since it doesnt show in play by play (or any defenses) does when one player is beat off the dribble or pass another move to cover. That would make the M2M IQ sense for Value.

IQ is just a component in the equation...but everything else being equal, the lower IQ guy will foul more.

I think IQ affects play and performance in numerous ways in any scheme.  Seems to matter more in press.

in real life hoops, it matters a ton in man defense - take just the example of how you handle screens.   You can see talented players blow it in that situation every night because of mental mistakes

But wouldnt handling screens also have to due more with quickness (ath-speed) and foot work....I suppose there is no definitive answer and Obviously it does improve defense no matter what style is employed. Perhaps as TrentonJoe says it also cuts down on fouls due to the improvement.

in this game - I think hoop IQ helps in most actions a player takes - perhaps to different degrees

in real life, we all see very athletic players screw up handling screens - the guard who goes under the screen when he should go over top, the big man who flashes out too far or not enough......freakishly talented guys screw this up - at every level of the game - college ball - youth rec ball......
