Is it worth the move? Topic

Been a long time since I tried to move up in D1, so the question I have: Is it worth it to move from a lower-tier conference where you've built a decent prestige for your team to a Big 6 conference rebuild with a lower prestige than your current stop?

I think I know the answer to the question but figured I'd throw it out there before I clicked apply.

100x yes there are really only 2 non big 6 schools worth taking for the long haul without an entire group ready to rebuild a conference in Gonzaga and Utah with Utah being the best non big 6 job(probably even better than some big 6 jobs)

However I assume what 2 schools you are looking at.  If you think either of those 2 schools you are fine with being at for awhile I'd jump at the chance, however if you aren't sure you like them and you think you can continue getting nt bids and getting to the 2nd round and maybe a S16 bid, I'd hold off and wait so that you can maybe get a job you like better that either drops in prestige or opens up.

really depends on what you want to do in HD.
Looks like you have a D3, D2, and low D1 team in an empty conference.
I'm not sure what the interest for me would be to stay at Georgia State unless I was a graduate of that school and just had a personal reason to stay there.
It is next to impossible to win a D1 title from there. The jump to low Big6 is really really tough to be successful at however. I have seen very few people have a good, winning experience by moving to a low Big6 team from a beginning level D1 school.
For me there is at least one more level (or two) in between a B- Georgia State and where I (personally) want to be in a Big6.
I prefer to enter Big6 conferences at least in the middle.
Most Big6 conferences have 3 levels.
The haves..... top 3-4 teams with A or A+ prestige who can recruit the 5star players it takes to maintain that level.
The middle.... about 3-4 teams in the center of the conference (B to A-) prestige who, with the right coach and some luck can join the Haves.
The have nots.... the bottom 3-4 teams. These guys are in a tough place. It may be very hard to hang in there long enough to move one of these teams up to the next level... esp. if you don't have some upper level D1 recruiting experience.
Like I said, it all depends on what you want from your HD experience.
There is alot of fun to be had at every level of HD. Finding that balance / niche and enjoying the ride is the key.
One current good / bad thing about D1 HD is you don't have to worry about being fired any time soon if you move and are not quickly successful.

I have no reason to stay at GA State.  I work at Eckerd and Widener was the first school I took when I returned to HD after a long absence so I intend to stay at both for a while.

The dilemma for me is, the schools I qualify for in better conferences are not in as good of shape as GA State (although next season will be tough).  But on the other hand, waiting for a better Big 6 job will probably mean I'm waiting for a long time as I can't imagine most coaches at those schools are leaving any time soon.  There is nothing worth looking at really in the mid-majors.  So, I dunno.

I haven't recruited high-level D1 in years so there would be a definite learning curve involved.

Should've just stayed at Indiana when I got there many, many seasons ago.

It's Iowa State and Seton Hall right?  Forgot about Purdue, K-State is one of the worst big 6 jobs.

I'd say Iowa State is a solid job, it can be tough, but I think it has potential and a lot of other worlds Iowa State has reach A- or better prestige.

Seton Hall is alright with St. John's being open it can be pretty good, I think its a bit tough imo than Iowa State,  but it's not like it's K-State.

Purdue I guess depends on the teams around you.  Look at the performance of Indiana, Notre Dame, and Indiana first see if you think you are better than them or at least within the same talent ability.  Then look a bit further at schools like Kentucky, Ohio State, MSU, Wisconsin.  You can still be good with Purdue if those teams are all tough I think it's just a lot harder.

I wouldn't touch K State with a 300 foot pole while wearing full body armor. granted unless you are a kstate fan.
