I'm wondering if speed might be the most important attribute when it comes to defending the perimeter in a zone. I've mostly stayed away from playing zone because of the three point threat the other team poses, not to mention the rebounding disadvantage.
i've used the zone quite a bit, and have had some pretty good success with it. especially at a couple of my div2 stops. you might be correct. i used to value SPD as much as ATH and DEF, but lately ive found myself being converted to leaning even more heavily on ATH and DEF as my cores. and as i think back, i do believe ive had even better defensive teams when my ATH and DEF weren't quite as high, but my SPD was better. defending the 3 has never really been an issue for me, especially since i try to recruit swing type SFs that can play 2-3 or 3-2...but you are right about the rebounding. it is always my achilles heel
