Well, you've got to start somewhere. And no matter where you start, someone is not going to like it.

I think that the single worst part of the game is Division-1 recruiting. I think that needs the most attention and that it needs to be the next thing fixed.

LSU got Ben SImmons IRL. There is no way that LSU can get an international 5 star from Australia.

Here is the real life 2015 recruiting list:

http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Basketball/RecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool

If you look at that list, here are some things other than Simmons that stand out as impossible in HD:

Cal signed Jaylen Brown from Georgia
Arizona signed Allonzo Trier from Maryland

That is just the tip of the iceberg.

Basically, in HD Div-1, If an A+ team wants someone within 180 miles, he is going there. IRL, that is not the case very often. Also, the best team or the team with the most prestige does not always get the best players. Ben Simmons could not go to a team in HD that has made the NCAA tourney 1 time (with no wins) in 6 years.

So some of us think recruiting is a huge problem, and that nothing else matters until that is fixed.

I know not everyone feels that way.

But I quit playing and then came back because the recruiting changes were announced. If they don't make those changes, I will be very ******, and probably stop playing.
Yet nobody really complained about recruiting and programs that were outside BCS conferences could compete nationally until potential was introduced and recruit generation were significantly changed. So what is the biggest problem here?
I guess that depends on your perspective. I think potential is great. It is not very realistic that any player can grow unlimited in every area. Then you can recruit anyone and grow them into anyone you want.

Diverse players are fine.

But I certainly understand other people have different opinions.
That's true. But by defining and color coding exactly what a player can become, you make recruiting 90% of your success as a coach, as opposed to the old system when planning your roster and setting a practice plan actually mattered.

I'll also admit that only part of my concern over this change is that I think recruit generation and the jobs process are much more pressing issues. The biggest problem I have is the scope of the change and WIS's history of completely screwing up every major release in one of their games. Based on Gil's population numbers, if this change leads to the same exodus that the last major update did, there will have to be Sims in the NT every year because there will be fewer than 60 humans everywhere.

honestly I think you have the best idea what recruiting should look like by just a few posts. I agree that the color coding is not the best way, and I like your suggestion of going back to the old way, maybe change color coding from potential to growth rate. So now recruiting a guy with 45 blue ath doesn't mean 20-28 potential, it means he has a very high growth rate if you put the practice plan into it. as well as knowing how it works with the NT from non major schools back when it was like that.

I think this method would allow greater coaching ability to shine and "new" strategies to show, I know myself and mfnmyers run very specific team builds that would be interesting to see how we would do as well as seeing what other strategies evolve besides just focusing heavily on ath or spd. It allows another dimension, and i agree recruiting is way to important in determining success unlike real life, coaching plans would allow for the Tom Izzo or Bo Ryan coaches to appear.

so its better to just have your practice plan be 90% of your success?

Oh, potential is one of the things I absolutely would not want to change much.
3/3/2016 5:37 PM
All recruiting actions should be multiplied by a 'how cool is the coach' or 'coolerator' scale to determine the value of each action. I took my own test and received a 98(got a 100 on the would get school on probation section). That equates to a 0.98 multiplier; whereas, most coaches here are closer to like a 42 score or 0.42 multiplier. Recruiting won't be fair till this change is made.

I agree. I would maybe like to see a 3rd high option. a high high could be 28 or 70. I think I've had a PG go up 77 on PER before. There is a big difference between his high high going from 18 to 50 or 18 to 95. Either were possible. That's being nit picky tho and would rather see whatif focus on other important things.
3/3/2016 6:58 PM
PI think d1 needs to
be fixed. Job process too. Advertising the game is the most important part or aspect going forward.
3/3/2016 7:01 PM
Id like the ability to scout guys after they sign. If I want to blow my carry over $ on it, I should be able to.

I'm with you here. I haven't been in D1 yet so I don't know the nitty gritty... but from what I can see, any top tier recruit inside a 180 mile radius to a A+ Big 6 school is going to that school. Coach Cal at UK would't be able to recruit like that. Neither would Coach K or Roy... the list goes on. Top recruits should have "preferences." If his preference to stay close? Ok then Ohio State gets him... but if his preference is to play for a west coast team or whatever, then Ohio State shouldn't get him just because he is from Dayton.

I am also looking forward to learning more about scouting. I LOVE the idea of holding camps at your college or going to national showcase camps to learn more about players. Outside of top recruits, that is how coaches find that next level guy. Also, don't a lot of recruits from D3 contact coaches? Kind of recruit themselves. I'm not saying overload us with inbox emails from every recruit, but if I am a favorite D3 program of his, why shouldn't he contact me if I don't find him in the first couple days?

It wasn't but thanks for playing. It was probably somewhere around 60% recruiting, 30% coaching, and 10% luck. Now it is probably 90% recruiting, 5% coaching, and 5% luck. If folks like the vast majority of their success being determined in a few days, that's fine.

But what are the biggest complaints about DI? Jobs, which isn't being addressed at all. The way it is skewed towards BCS elites is the what they are trying to address with this, but you know what, it wasn't so skewed towards those teams before potential and recruit generation changed. Small conference and mid-major teams could build squads that could compete for national titles. The mechanics of recruiting were exactly the same. The postseason cash bonus was exactly the same.

Potential made the game a lot more realistic, but I'm not totally convinced it made the game better.

Little does seble know I only have 1 class tomorrow and no work. I promise I won't bombard 100 questions, I'll limit myself to like 3ish
I wanna see the REAL only come back out to play...there's no point in not being ourselves this late in the game.
3/3/2016 7:52 PM
Here's the short list that I would like to see:

#1 Firing/Hiring/Prestige at DI - I've never even played DI because I knew this jacked up from the very beginning.

#2 Whether you sign anybody or not, only 25% of a programs recruiting budget rolls over after signings end.

#3 Minor tweaks to the engine, like choosing match-ups in man-to-man, better end of game control, etc. etc.
3/3/2016 8:06 PM
I like #3. We should be able to choose who guards who.

I would like to see the lack of BH and Passing hurt those teams more who only have Def and Ath and D3. I can't get myself to play just those 2 attributes. I want a legit offense. i'm fine with the press, but a team with 20 BH and 20 Pass guards should have as many TOs and shoot terrible.
3/3/2016 8:20 PM
I agree, I would like to be able to increase the amount of game planning I could do. I have hoped many times I could have my best defender guard the other teams best player but I couldn't because it would mess up my offense. I would also like to be able to set who plays late in the game, who plays in certain situations, who takes the last shot, etc. what would be really great but I dont know if it is possible is to be able to choose what plays you use or maybe creat plays.
3/3/2016 8:43 PM
Ooh! Just remembered! 3pt settings. I don't want my damn center chucking up 3 pt bricks at the end of games.
