Well, you've got to start somewhere. And no matter where you start, someone is not going to like it.
I think that the single worst part of the game is Division-1 recruiting. I think that needs the most attention and that it needs to be the next thing fixed.
LSU got Ben SImmons IRL. There is no way that LSU can get an international 5 star from Australia.
Here is the real life 2015 recruiting list:
http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Basketball/RecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool
If you look at that list, here are some things other than Simmons that stand out as impossible in HD:
Cal signed Jaylen Brown from Georgia
Arizona signed Allonzo Trier from Maryland
That is just the tip of the iceberg.
Basically, in HD Div-1, If an A+ team wants someone within 180 miles, he is going there. IRL, that is not the case very often. Also, the best team or the team with the most prestige does not always get the best players. Ben Simmons could not go to a team in HD that has made the NCAA tourney 1 time (with no wins) in 6 years.
So some of us think recruiting is a huge problem, and that nothing else matters until that is fixed.
I know not everyone feels that way.
But I quit playing and then came back because the recruiting changes were announced. If they don't make those changes, I will be very ******, and probably stop playing.
Yet nobody really complained about recruiting and programs that were outside BCS conferences could compete nationally until potential was introduced and recruit generation were significantly changed. So what is the biggest problem here?
I guess that depends on your perspective. I think potential is great. It is not very realistic that any player can grow unlimited in every area. Then you can recruit anyone and grow them into anyone you want.
Diverse players are fine.
But I certainly understand other people have different opinions.
That's true. But by defining and color coding exactly what a player can become, you make recruiting 90% of your success as a coach, as opposed to the old system when planning your roster and setting a practice plan actually mattered.
I'll also admit that only part of my concern over this change is that I think recruit generation and the jobs process are much more pressing issues. The biggest problem I have is the scope of the change and WIS's history of completely screwing up every major release in one of their games. Based on Gil's population numbers, if this change leads to the same exodus that the last major update did, there will have to be Sims in the NT every year because there will be fewer than 60 humans everywhere.
so its better to just have your practice plan be 90% of your success?
It wasn't but thanks for playing. It was probably somewhere around 60% recruiting, 30% coaching, and 10% luck. Now it is probably 90% recruiting, 5% coaching, and 5% luck. If folks like the vast majority of their success being determined in a few days, that's fine.
But what are the biggest complaints about DI? Jobs, which isn't being addressed at all. The way it is skewed towards BCS elites is the what they are trying to address with this, but you know what, it wasn't so skewed towards those teams before potential and recruit generation changed. Small conference and mid-major teams could build squads that could compete for national titles. The mechanics of recruiting were exactly the same. The postseason cash bonus was exactly the same.
Potential made the game a lot more realistic, but I'm not totally convinced it made the game better.
