There has been talk that Doug Gottlieb may be interested in the Oklahoma State job.
Gottlieb's father was a former head coach and an assistant with former Cowboys coach Eddie Sutton.
Doug played guard for OK State after being forced to leave Notre Dame for stealing credit cards.
Yeah, I saw that #bringDoughome was trending on Twitter. Personally, seems like a terrible idea. But I don't know who we can get. Even though it's the Big 12, OSU will never be a top destination for top coaches. I think it could still be a very good job, don't get me wrong. But I'm doing research on well-known assistant coaches because that's where I figure the next coach will come from.
Outside of Kansas, the Big 12 is football first.
What are some reasons you think they can't be on the same level as Oklahoma, Baylor, Iowa State when it comes to hoops? Are the facilities modern? Does basketball have the backing of the administration and boosters?
We do have nice facilities. But you're right -- football is king. And that's how the boosters think. T. Boone has given loads of money to the football program and, as far as I can tell, very little to other sports. I think we can build the program back to where it was when Eddie Sutton was there, but it's going to be a struggle.
And regarding Bill Self, we tried to get him in 2008 and had to settle for Travis Ford, who I actually like a lot as a person. His first season was my last year in school. I got to talk to him a lot when I wrote sports for the school paper. Self isn't leaving KU. If he didn't then, he won't now.
